CRICKET Australia XI captain Will Pucovski has been forced to retire hurt from the side’s one-day match against the England Lions after hitting his head while diving for a single.

The Victorian young gun was diving for the crease when taking a quick single at Metricon Stadium when his bat dug into the turf and forced his head into the ground.

Pucovski, who turns 22 today, left the field and was assessed by medical staff at the ground.

It is unlikely he will return today.

At no stage was he knocked out and he is back in the stand watching the game but officials will conduct a concussion test and undergo further testing before assessed again before game two on Tuesday.

Pucovski has a long history of concussion problems while he has also recently returned from a battle with mental illness.

MORE TO COME.
