Travis Head insists his heated verbal exchanges with Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell were “nothing too serious” as Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a miracle run chase on Saturday night.
The South Australian and opening partner Abhishek Sharma put on the best partnership of the 2025 IPL tournament when they blasted 171 between them to pull off the second biggest run chase the IPL has seen.
Punjab hold the record winning chase of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens last year.

Sharma went berserk as he crushed 141 off 55 balls to carry Hyderabad to reach Punjab’s total of 245 with nine balls and eight wickets remaining.
The biggest talking point to emerge from the blockbuster was the incident that saw Head and his two Australian teammates trade verbal barbs in the ninth over.

Head blasted 66 and he provided more fireworks without the bat when he appeared to take offence at something Maxwell did in the final delivery of the over.
It is unclear what was said, but in the ninth over of Hyderabad’s innings Head launched Maxwell for back-to-back sixes before closing out the over with consecutive dot balls, foxsports.com.au reports.
As Head walked down the pitch to chat with Abhishek in between overs, words were said between he and Maxwell, with neither appearing pleased.
Stoinis then stepped in, and as the Australians were agitated, the umpire even stepped in to try cool things down.
Head insisted after the match there were no issues between himself and his fellow Australians.
“You bring out the best and the worst in each other when you know them so well, nothing too serious, just a bit of banter,” he said.
“Not bad, nice to get on the winners list. It was an exceptional night; we needed it. We had our work cut out at the halfway point. We gave ourselves a chance, showed a bit more patience at the start.
“We knew the plans they were going to come with. Gave ourselves a bit more time and got off to a flyer. We did the things we did really well last year, and that’s what made us such a good partnership.
“It’s just about encouraging each other, picking our targets and setting the stage. We’ve seen 270-280 scored on that wicket. We’ve played on slightly different wickets, but No. 2 seems to put out big scores. Everything had to go right for us to chase down 240.”
Despite the Aussie trio making headlines, Abhishek was the main attraction.
Abhishek’s individual score is the third highest in IPL history behind Chris Gayle (175 not out for Bengaluru) and Brendon McCullum (158 not out for Kolkata) and the largest in 12 years.
“This one is very special, because I wanted to break that losing streak,” Abhishek said. “Losing four matches back to back was very tough. But we never talked about it in the team.” Shreyas Iyer’s 82 and a late blitz of 34 by Stoinis steered Punjab to 245-6, but the total proved inadequate as the Sunrisers openers took their team off the bottom of the 10-team table with just a second win in six matches.
Abhishek started as he meant to go on, reaching his fifty in 19 balls. Australia’s Head fell to leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal after hitting nine fours and three sixes in his 37-ball knock.
But Abhishek raised his century in only 40 balls as he roared, punched the air and waved a piece of paper with a message reading “this one for the orange army”, referencing the Sunrisers fans.
Arshdeep Singh eventually dismissed Abhishek, who hit 14 fours and 10 sixes, with 24 to win and Heinrich Klaasen saw Hyderabad home with an unbeaten 21 off 14 balls.
