After two false starts, The Southport School finally launched their GPS first XI assault today and kept their hopes of a fourth-straight crown alive with a five-wicket victory over Brisbane State High.
With a bye and two washouts to begin the campaign, TSS entered the Round 4 fixture at Village Green knowing they would likely need to win their last six games to have any chance of claiming their eighth title in 11 years.
FIRST XI ROOKIE WITH KEY ROLE TO PLAY IN TSS TILT
After losing the toss, the bowlers held up their end of the bargain to roll the visitors for 149 in the 48th over, with captain Jack Hocart (3-27) combining with Liam O’Connor (2-24) and Tom Gossett (2-27) to do the damage.
Australian under-18 representative Jack Sinfield (42), Gossett (33), Jack Dwyer (26 not out) and opener Justin Faber (22) then led the run chase as the hosts cruised home with five wickets and more than 14 overs to spare.
