CUP’S BEST A MIX OF OLD AND NEW
While the Kookaburra Cup’s top wicket-takers list included some familiar faces this season in Reece McDonald (Broadbeach Robina) and Michael Durbridge (Queens), a number of new stars emerged.
Top of the tally was Queens quick Blake Chapman (38 wickets), while Runaway Bay’s Matt Madeley (29), Mudgeeraba Nerang spinner Brad Munro (26), Burleigh’s Lachlan O’Keefe and Helensave Pacific Pines all-rounder Harry Lickiss (both 26) also came of age.
QUIRKY REASON CORONAVIRUS COULD HELP COAST CRICKET SIDE
DOLPHINS HEADED IN RIGHT DIRECTION
It wasn’t the result they were hoping for but Gold Coast again proved they can match it with Queensland Premier Cricket’s best in the weekend’s semi-final loss to University of Queensland.
Making their first finals appearance in six years, the Dolphins held their own against the minor premiers before being bowled out in pursuit of quick runs.
TSS BATS MUST LIFT
The Southport School’s batting line-up have all chipped in with valuable runs at different times but they are still in need of more matchwinning knocks.
Tom Gossett’s 80 against Toowoomba Grammar remains the only half-century for the TSS first XI in four games this season, with the batsmen failing to fire as they were bowled out for 149 in Saturday’s loss to Brisbane Boys’ College.
DEMONS’ TITLE HOPES DEALT BLOW
Surfers Paradise appeared to be building nicely for the Kookaburra Cup finals but Saturday’s horror outright loss to Mudgeeraba Nerang may have undone all their hard work.
Rolled for just 42 and 101 against fellow top-four side Mudgeeraba Nerang, the Demons must regroup for this weekend’s do-or-die semi against minor premiers Broadbeach Robina.
FAIRYTALE FAREWELL RUINED IN GRAND-FINAL DEFEAT
COAST STILL CHASING FINALS FORMULA
There was more grand-final pain for Gold Coast’s Katherine Raymont Shield side on Sunday as Sandgate-Redcliffe pipped them at the post for the one-day crown.
Despite dominating the 50-over format all season, the Dolphins must now be wondering how to break their premiership duck after six grand-final defeats.
