ONLY one round out from the Christmas break The Bulletin looks at the top performers in the Kookaburra Cup so far.
The below side is the best players this season in the one-day format and includes three all-rounders, plenty of bowling options and some run making machines.
KOOKABURRA CUP ONE-DAY TEAM 2020/2021
MASON CANNING (Palm Beach Currumbin)
Opening for the side is Lions’ batter Canning, who's produced a consistent season to date in the Kookaburra Cup.
With three half-centuries and falling twice in the 40s in his nine innings, the opener has chalked up 311 runs at 38.88 heading into the final round before the Christmas break.
The former Gold Coast Dolphin has used his experience to head into the weekend’s round as the third leading run scorer in the league.
KYLE BROCKLEY (Broadbeach Robina)
At the non-striker's end for the side’s opening delivery is Cats’ opener Brockley.
Again, another consistent performer, Brockley has only scored below 20 runs in two of his eight innings.
The pace-bowler also has the ability to bowl some handy over and proved his all-round talent this season taking 4-32 against Burleigh.
NATHAN REARDON (Surfers Paradise)
The competition's standout batter, Reardon will bat first drop for the side.
Having represented Australia in the shortest format, along with Queensland and multiple BBL clubs, the left-hander has already scored 427 at an average of 85.40.
In seven innings Reardon has hit two centuries and one half-century to put him on top of the leading run scorers in the competition.
JOSH NELSON (Mudgeeraba Nerang & Districts)
Sitting behind Reardon in the leading run scorers and in the side’s order is Bushmen’s batter Nelson.
With one century and three half-centuries to his name, Nelson has scored 337 runs with an incredible average of 112.33.
Another former Dolphin, the right-hander has continued on from a successful return to his junior club last season.
NATHAN HILL (Queens)
The middle order Queens batter will play the same role for this side, coming in at number five.
Hill averages 35.25 with the bat so far this season but has only scored one half-century, demonstrating the consistency of his performances.
It’s been somewhat of a breakout season to date for Hill, who hit only his second career half-century in the Kookaburra Cup a few weeks ago when he scored 63, which is his highest score in the league.
RYAN KETTLE (Palm Beach Currumbin)
With years of experience, the Palm Beach Currumbin playing coach will captain the side.
The all-rounder will provide a level head at number six and bowl plenty of overs for the side.
Kettle has scored 261 runs this season at 32.63 and his bowling has been even better, leading the wicket-takers with 21 wickets.
The leg-spinner has been a standout with the ball, taking three 5-wicket hauls and averages 7.76.
JAINAM PATEL (Palm Beach Currumbin)
Possibly the hardest position to pick in the side, Palm Beach Currumbin wicketkeeper Patek has got the gloves.
Patel has nine catches and three stumpings from his nine games behind the stumps.
To go with his glovework, he averages 19.63 with the bat coming in at three for his side, a much harder position than the number seven role he’ll play for this team.
COREY GALLOWAY (Alberton Ormeau)
The Alberton Ormeau seamer won’t only be a handful with the ball but adds depth to the team’s batting.
Taking 13 wickets at an average of 14, Galloway also opens the batting for his side.
Coming in at number eight and bowling his eight over, Galloway is likely to impact that game in some way.
JOSH HENDERSON (Coomera Hope Island)
The opening bowler has once again troubled batters across the competition.
The former Queensland Premier Cricket regular with South Brisbane and Redlands, has taken 15 wickets at 12.87.
Henderson's economy of 3.22 is also very impressive.
Also averaging 21.75 with the bat, Henderson will provide some later order hitting if required.
CONAN STERNBERG (Broadbeach Robina)
Taking the new rock for the team is Broadbeach Robina seamer Sternberg.
With 15 wickets at 9.73 to his name already, Sternberg has been impressive this season with the ball.
Two 4-wicket hauls and an economy of 3.24, he’ll tie the batters down while taking wickets.
JARED AUSTIN (Runaway Bay)
Another spinner who has bamboozled batters this season, Austin sits behind Kettle on the leading wicket-takers tally with 17 dismissals.
An incredible economy of 3.33 runs per over and at an average of 12.35 with the ball, Austin will play a major role during the middle overs.
