THE Southport School’s first XI premiership hopefuls continue to fire in unison after edging closer to the GPS crown with a bonus-point win over Brisbane Grammar School yesterday.
As was largely the case in their victories over Brisbane State High and Toowoomba Grammar, there were no major standouts but important contributions from a number of players as TSS prevailed by 49 runs at Village Green.
Louis Chabert (43 not out), Jack Sinfield (32) and Justin Faber (29) were all instrumental in the hosts’ total of 9-210, with lower-order pair Finn Smith and Judd Markham chipping in with 21 apiece.
TSS YOUNG GUNS MAINTAINING THE RAGE
The bowlers then continued their trend of frugalness to restrict Brisbane Grammar to just 8-151 from their 50 overs.
Austin Billing (2-16), Sinfield (2-18) and skipper Jack Hocart (2-44) claimed multiple scalps, while Sam Heathwood (1-1) and Liam O’Connor (1-21) took one each.
The result leaves TSS (31 points) two points clear of second-placed Brisbane Boys’ College as they chase a fourth-straight first XI premiership and their eighth in the past 11 years.
