Opening the batting at Hession Oval, Chapman crafted 164 from 187 balls - Nathan Reardon held this season’s previous best of 163 - as the Bushmen amassed 6-299 declared.
Josh Nelson also made 77 against the Hawks, who will resume their chase at 0-20 next Saturday.
