You missed the first game of BBL09, but it’s not too late to join SuperCoach BBL

You’ve missed the first game of the Big Bash League season, but there’s still plenty of reasons to sign up for SuperCoach BBL. Here’s how you can pick a team which will be in the mix for $57,000 in prizes today.

Sixers make their BBL SuperCoach picks

So you missed the chance to pick Chris Lynn, Tom Banton, Daniel Sams and Callum Ferguson in your SuperCoach BBL team.

Your season isn’t over.

In fact, you can still make the cut for Round 1 with a team which will have you in contention for $57,000 in prizes.

Brisbane Heat opened the new campaign against Sydney Thunder last night and players from both of those teams are now locked out.

However, you can still choose players from the other six BBL sides — including Sydney Sixers, who have a Round 1 double.

The Sixers have been one of the most-popular teams with SuperCoaches as they feature five times in the opening three rounds.

Captain Moises Henriques ($101,500 BAT-BWL), English batsman James Vince ($139,500, BAT), exciting wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe ($123,000, WKP-BAT) and opener Daniel Hughes ($115,000, BAT) underline the value in the Sixers’ squad.

Sydney Sixers host Perth Scorchers from 7.10pm tonight and you will need to select players from those two teams before the start of the game when they will be locked out.

The only two players to average above 90 points a game in BBL08, Marcus Stoinis and D’Arcy Short, are also yet to feature.

Missing out on expensive Heat players such as Chris Lynn ($173,000, BAT) and Ben Cutting ($182,900) or Thunder pair Usman Khawaja ($198,500, BAT) and Daniel Sams ($170,200, BAT-BWL) could prove a blessing in disguise if Short and Stoinis replicate their form from last summer.

Short’s Hurricanes are an intriguing team in SuperCoach BBL.

They don’t have an all-important double game week until Round 12, but also don’t have a bye at any stage during BBL09.

That means you can select Short, boom leg-spinner Qais Ahmad ($148,600, BWL) or fiery paceman Riley Meredith ($139,000, BWL) and be content in the knowledge you won’t have to juggle their availability.

Hobart’s first game is against the Sixers in Alice Springs on Friday, while Brisbane Heat hosts Melbourne Stars on Friday night.

Reigning champion Melbourne Renegades takes on Sydney Thunder in Geelong on Thursday evening.

ONE STEP AHEAD

Plan for future rounds by choosing players such as Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh and Ashton Agar rather than honing in on the Round 1 double.

LOAD UP ON SIXERS

If you don’t want to miss out on the Sixers’ two doubles to Round 3, pick as many players from the pink Sydney side as you can! The risk with this team is there’s only so many points that can go around in the Sixers’ matches.

D’Arcy Short and Marcus Stoinis were comfortably the top-two scorers of BBL08 and squeezing them into your side could yet be a masterstroke.
