SuperCoach: Pack your side with Perth Scorchers point-of-difference players ahead of Round 6

Ashton Turner has struggled throughout the opening five rounds of BBL SuperCoach. But a double game round, a cheap price and low ownership makes him mighty tempting. Plus, other unique buys ahead of Round 6.

High scoring point-of-difference selections are worth their weight in gold in SuperCoach, particularly in the BBL format.

With the greater variation between high and low totals and many SuperCoaches having most of the big names in their side, it’s the lesser-lights who perform strongly that can set you apart.

Take Qais Ahmad’s whopping score of 180 points the opening round, which saw his 4,000 owners skyrocket up the rankings.

Similarly, under 6,000 SuperCoaches cashed in with cheapie Haris Rauf’s monster 156-point display in Round 2.

The Scorchers are the only team with a double game week in Round 6, so it is time to pack our sides with Perth PODS.

But don’t get too carried away, as the Scorchers have a SuperCoach BBL bye in Round 7.

Chris Jordan ($187.9k, BWL)

9.1 per cent ownership

Jordan is the second ranked T20 bowler in the world and has been a consistent performer in BBL09, taking eight wickets in five games. That’s why it’s a surprise to see he is owned by less than 10 per cent of SuperCoaches. He averages more SuperCoach points than any other Scorcher and remains at an affordable $187.9k. Jordan is generally trusted to bowl at the death, which is prime wicket-taking territory. Will be one of the most popular trade-ins this week and is a safe captaincy option.

Liam Livingstone ($142.1k, BAT/BWL)

10.6 per cent ownership

In his last BBL fixture, Livingstone finally rolled the arm over for the first time, taking a handy 1/17 from two overs. He has been hit and miss with the bat but if he can produce one knock like his blistering 69 from 26 deliveries in this double game week, he will be worth every penny. His bowling display will hopefully give Mitch Marsh more confidence throwing the ball to him, and he can be selected as a batsman or a bowler.

Ashton Turner ($101.7k, BAT)

7.9 per cent ownership

It hasn’t been a great dress rehearsal for Australia’s ODI tour of India for Ashton Turner, scoring just 83 runs in BBL09. It means the explosive batsman comes at a serious discount ahead of their double game round. Two bites of the cherry gives us greater confidence of him producing a strong SuperCoach total, even if he is in poor form. With six half-centuries and more than 1000 BBL runs under his belt, he could prove to be a steal.

Matthew Kelly ($149.6k, BWL)

0.8 per cent ownership

The Scorchers’ opening bowler missed two games this season through but has produced scores of 64 and 76 since his return. This is including impressive figures of 2/22 from 3.4 overs against the Heat. Kelly is less than 1 per cent of teams and looms as a tantalising POD pick
