The two most important rounds of BBL13 are almost here as the freescoring Perth Scorchers prepare for back-to-back doubles.
Some of SuperCoach’s top scorers — Aaron Hardie, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson — are scheduled to play four times in the next two rounds.
The Scorchers share a double with Adelaide Strikers in round 6, who boast the likes of Matt Short, Chris Lynn and Jamie Overton.
Then in round 7 it’s the second ‘Super Round’ of BBL13 as Perth, Hobart and Brisbane play twice.
The destination of the $25k overall prize is likely to be decided during a packed run of fixtures between January 3-10.
Get your trades right in the next two rounds — especially if using a boost — and you will get an all-important edge on the competition.
The other factor to consider is that the two teams on the double — Perth and Adelaide — play both their matches against each other.
Ultimately, not every big gun from the Strikers and Scorchers is going to be able to score well.
Here are our top targets from the Scorchers and Strikers for round 6.
SCORCHERS
Josh Inglis $133,600 WKP-BAT
One of the most destructive batters in the BBL, Inglis is only this cheap due to two games where he scored less than 10 in circumstances which were out of his control. He had just come to the crease when Perth’s match against the Renegades was abandoned in Geelong, scoring three, and then scored zero when he didn’t get a bat as Zak Crawley and Aaron Hardie dominated against Hobart. Lock him in as your wicketkeeper for the next two rounds and potentially round 8 as well.
Jhye Richardson $170k BWL
It is surely only a matter of time until the longtime SuperCoach favourite carves through an opposition batting line-up. Richardson has dropped by $77k and although $170k isn’t as cheap as optimistic SuperCoaches were hoping he would be by round 6, it’s a significant discount on his starting price for BBL13. The prolific quick has scores of 74, 112 and 90 points in his last three outings against the Strikers, who Perth face twice in round 6.
Andrew Tye $151,000 BWL
Jason Behrendorff (8) is the only Perth player with more wickets than Tye (5) in BBL13. Tye is enjoying a consistent start to the tournament, producing SuperCoach scores of 43, 46 and 93 in the three matches he has bowled in. His last outing against the Renegades was particularly impressive, delivering 11 dot balls and only conceding two boundaries — although it should be noted, his score of 93 was helped by a crazy run out off his boot which dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk. There’s never a bad time to own Tye, who has long been one of the premier death bowlers in the BBL. And every SuperCoach knows, those are the overs when the biggest points are scored.
Ashton Agar $112,700 BAT-BWL
The Aussie white-ball tweaker has a great role for SuperCoach BBL, batting at No. 7 and bowling at least three overs most matches. Agar has never been the most prolific BBL bowler, taking six wickets from 10 matches in BBL12 for a career total of 58 wickets from 78 BBL matches. Because of that, he doesn’t have the points ceiling most of Perth’s bowlers do, but is reliable enough to expect a score of at least 60-80 in the double. He’s worth a look if you don’t have the money for the quicks.
Aaron Hardie $207,700 BAT-BWL
The new Scorchers captain is absolutely airborne. Hardie has reached the 20-run mark required to be eligible for the strike-rate bonus in every innings this season, including on the Geelong pitch where the match was abandoned after 41 balls. His form with the bat has meant that despite only bowling 11 balls in four games, Hardie was averaging 76 points and was ranked fourth for total SuperCoach points after four rounds (despite a round 4 bye). He’ll be a popular captaincy choice and should love the short boundaries in Adelaide — he’s been clearing the bigger ones in Perth by a long way.
Jason Behrendorff $202,100 BWL
Hard to believe the big left-armer entered the round 1 double for Perth as a point-of-difference selection. He was coming off a successful T20 series against India and is one of the best powerplay bowlers in BBL history. Behrendorff has taken wickets in each of the three matches he bowled in, including hauls of 3-28 against the Stars and 4-25 against the Hurricanes. Expect his ownership to be much lower than Richardson and Tye due to the higher price tag.
Zak Crawley $138,600 BAT
It would be an interesting call if you last trade in was between the Englishman and Agar. Would you go for reliability or ceiling? At this point of the season, if you’re interested in being a chance of winning SuperCoach, the answer should be ceiling. Crawley’s opening knock of 65 not out for Perth was brilliant and showed he’s a class above this level. The good news is he’s likely to play both doubles before heading to India to link up with England’s Test squad.

STRIKERS
Matt Short
Remember round 2 when he scored 540 as captain for thousands of teams? Yes, he’s very expensive and maybe not bowling as much as SuperCoaches were hoping. Twice facing the formidable Perth attack also isn’t ideal, but Short has an incredible record in recent summers at Adelaide Oval — where the second of the two round 6 matches will be played. His ceiling is so high that he could feasibly end your hopes of overall glory if you fade him in round 6. Don’t take the risk.
Jamie Overton
The English all-rounder has been one of the standout picks of the summer for those who jumped on when he was $125k. Overton is set to be more than $200k in round 6 and will be a player some coaches try to hold onto for the rest of the season. He has an amazing role batting at No. 6 (usually around the power surge) and bowling four overs. If you can only have one of him, Hardie and Behrendorff, it’s going to be a very tough call. But, it’s probably wise to go for one of the Scorchers who play four times in the next two rounds.
James Bazley
The cheaper alternative of the two Strikers’ all-rounders. Bazley bats one spot below Overton and hasn’t been guaranteed the same overs, although his performance in round 4 against the Renegades suggests that might change for the rest of the tournament. Bazley bowled three overs, took 1-21 and broke the key stand of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Shaun Marsh during that game. His overs aren’t guaranteed but if he continues to bowl well, surely Short will increase his bowling output.
Chris Lynn
Lynn has been reborn since making the move to Adelaide and his performance against the Renegades in round 4 served as a reminder of his SuperCoach ceiling. Lynn smashed 56 from 34 balls in that match, backing up a knock of 37 from 17 balls against the Sixers. The BBL’s all-time leading run scorer looks to be in imperious form and has so far justified his high starting price.
Cameron Boyce
Boyce has been entrusted the No. 1 spin duties in Adelaide after injury wiped out Rashid Khan’s BBL13 campaign. His start to the tournament has been solid without being spectacular, but eagle-eyed SuperCoaches will have noted Boyce bowled 11 of a possible 12 overs in the opening three games. That’s no mean feat in a team which is stacked with bowlers. He delivered three overs against the Renegades, when one of his allotment was pinched by D’Arcy Short. But after that over went for 16, that shouldn’t be an issue going forward. Boyce is the cheap option of the Strikers you could consider, unless you’re game enough to bank on Wes Agar turning his form around. You should be aware that Ben Manenti has been in Adelaide’s squad for almost every match which would suggest he’s not far away. The last thing you want is Boyce being ousted midway through a double.

LOOKING AHEAD
Hobart, Brisbane and Perth play twice in round 7, so you can get ahead of the pack if you find room for a Hurricane or Heat player among your trades in round 6. Use SuperCoach Plus to check out break evens and try to save yourself some all-important cash.
NIKHIL CHAUDHARY
The Hurricane who was supposed to be a season loophole option has turned into a grear cash cow and a genuine on-field option for round 7. Chaudary has played the past four matches for Hobart, contributing knocks of 40 and 32 and taking two wickets in his most recent outing against Sydney Thunder. He is likely to have jumped by more than $50k after round 5 but still has more money to make. But more crucially, if he’s going to be bowling four overs he becomes a serious option for the round 7 double. He finished with 2-26 against the Thunder and scored 67 points without batting. If you started him with the intention of looping, you’ve got one of the bargains of the summer.
CHRIS JORDAN
The Englishman recently gained BAT status which should make it easier to add him to your team. Jordon was player of the match in Hobart’s win over the Thunder, taking 2-20 in one of his best bowling performances in recent seasons. Those wickets took Jordon to three after five games, while he has also contributed 86 runs in three innings. If you’re eyeing him for the round 7 double, it’s probably worth jumping on now to avoid another price rise. Could this be how you use your last boost? Jordan was initially listed as being available for 6-9 games, so keep an ear out for word on when he’s leaving BBL13 before committing.
