KFC SuperCoach BBL: Best internationals to pick in 2022/23

The T20 World Cup is here, and it’s time for KFC SuperCoaches to get studying. Here are the standout internationals to consider and keep an eye out for.

The T20 World Cup is on our shores, and for KFC SuperCoach BBL players it’s a golden opportunity for research.

Often, internationals are touted by their form in other domestic T20 tournaments across the globe — think Will Jacks, who was the best thing since sliced bread before failing to deliver in the Big Bash.

Now we have T20 specialists — many of whom were taken in the BBL Draft in August — showing their wares in Australian conditions right before our eyes.

So, which international players should we be looking out for, and who looms as must-have picks?

Here are five internationals who should come into serious considerations for your KFC SuperCoach BBL side.

Rashid Khan (Afghanistan/Strikers) BWL $193,600

Do we even need to bother watching him at the World Cup? With a double-game round first up, the No. 1 choice in the BBL Draft is also the No. 1 choice in KFC SuperCoach BBL. The Afghan tweaker took 19 wickets at this year’s IPL and we know he can perform in Aussie conditions. His side are up against it to make it through the group stages but even sub-par form would be enough to lock him into your side.

Trent Boult (New Zealand/Stars) $180,000 BWL

The third overall pick in the BBL Draft, Boult is coming off 16 wickets in as many matches for the Rajastan Royals in the IPL and remains one of the premier white-ball bowlers at the age of 33. He will be lead the Kiwi attack at the T20 World Cup, which he did in last year’s tournament in the UAE, claiming the equal second-most wickets. While $180,000 is a lot to pay for a bowler only, he will be difficult to resist with a round 1 double if he stars for New Zealand.

David Willey (England/Thunder) BAT/BWL $149,500

A strong T20 World Cup will solidify his status as a round 1 lock in KFC SuperCoach BBL. Willey is a reliable bowler in this format and strikes at more than 130 in T20Is. Plus, he is the only platinum player from the BBL Draft that is staying for the entire BBL. Did I mention he has back-to-back doubles to start the season?

Shadab Khan (Pakistan/Hurricanes) BAT/BWL $125,000

The leg-spinning all-rounder has been shifted up the order for Pakistan in recent times, smashing a quick-fire 34 off 22 against New Zealand in one of their warm-up games at No. 4. With the ball, Khan was the third-highest wicket taker at this year’s Asia Cup with eight wickets. Khan comes in at a juicy $125,000 after averaging just 24.7 points from his three matches last year for the Sixers, but he is as an option with significant upside if the Hurricanes use him as a pinch hitter.

Rilee Rossouw (South Africa/Thunder) $105,000 BAT

Rossouw, who signed a shock Kolpak deal with Hampshire in 2017, came out of international retirement mid-year and has thrived since. He blasted his maiden T20I ton – off a mere 48 deliveries – against India at the beginning of the month and smoked a 96 in his second game back in the side. The 33-year-old was taken at pick 18 in the BBL Draft by the Sydney Thunder and comes at a discount after middling results with the Renegades in BBL10 – and he plays four times in the opening two rounds of the KFC SuperCoach BBL season.
