Tim Michell has tallied up the numbers, checked them twice, and worked out what the best grounds are for batsmen and bowlers ahead of this year’s Big Bash League season – here’s just a taste of his fine mathematical skills!

Which Big Bash League grounds can you expect a runs fest at and which are a minefield for batsmen? We’ve crunched the numbers on how every venue played during BBL|08.

Spectators at Adelaide Oval were treated to 12 scores above 150 from 14 innings, with a low score of 137 recorded when the Strikers skittled Melbourne Stars in 19.2 overs.

Adelaide has the best runs per innings average of any ground last summer (165.3), just ahead of Hobart’s Bellerive Oval.

Sydney Showgrounds and Marvel Stadium maintained their reputation as the pitches with the most on offer for bowlers.

An average of 6.9 wickets fell in every innings at Sydney Thunder’s home ground – the Showgrounds – while 6.7 wickets was the average at Marvel Stadium.
