With no team playing twice in BBL SuperCoach round two, Shane Warne is banking on big names like Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell and D’Arcy Short to provide valuable points.

Most SuperCoaches know the importance of a double game week.
In such a congested BBL09 fixture, teams that play twice are gold in SuperCoach BBL.
But if you’re too blinkered and only focus on those sides, you can miss out on some of SuperCoach BBL’s real bargains.

I started with Riley Meredith as I’m confident this will be a breakout summer for the Hobart Hurricanes quick.
Hobart doesn’t play twice until Round 12, but I’m happy to back a player who has serious talent and bowls with real venom.
Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Finch, D’Arcy Short and Glenn Maxwell made my ‘Club 23 Legends’ for the same reason.
Each of this quartet is capable of changing the direction of a game with bat and ball and earning big points.
I was forced into some late changes when Mackenzie Harvey and Marcus Harris weren’t named in Melbourne Renegades’ round one squad.
In came young Victorian Matt Short (Adelaide Strikers) and spinner Clive Rose, a late re-signing by the Hurricanes who has significant T20 experience.
Short’s Adelaide teammate Rashid Khan is in my sights for Round 2 as another big-name addition.
He’s so difficult to pick under lights and the Strikers open their campaign with a night game in Canberra against the Thunder.
I’ve seen a bit of Adelaide’s new Englishman Phil Salt, and although he’s a talented opening batsman, I’d prefer to see him in Australian conditions before trading him in.
The Strikers, Scorchers and Sixers have the double in round three, but there’s no team playing twice in Round 2.
That’s where my team of big guns will really come to the fore.
A team loaded with Stoinis, D’Arcy Short, Maxwell, Finch, Meredith and Khan will have the potential to score well in any round.
The thing I like most about these players — in particular Short, Stoinis and Maxwell — is they have something to prove.
They’ve been squeezed out of the Australian set-up and will need to use the BBL to state their case for next year’s World T20.
Josh Philippe showed exactly why I’m so bullish about his talent in round one with 81 not out from 44 balls against Perth.
If he keeps playing like that, he’ll give the Australian selectors headaches.
Chris Green is another who has impressed in T20 competitions around the world and showed his ability to strangle batsmen in round one.
WARNEY ON HIS BBL BIG GUNS
Josh Philippe & Riley Meredith: “I’m expecting some big things from them this year. I think they will play for Australia in the next six to 12 months.”
Rashid Khan: “He’s very hard to pick. He’s extremely hard to pick under lights. I think he enjoys the role of being the overseas pro and leading the attack.”
Cameron Green: “I thought he looked really organised and had power as well.”
Glenn Maxwell: “He’s one of the best T20 players in the world, so I’m expecting some big things from him.”
