KFC SuperCoach BBL: Best trades for Round 9 and BBL10 run home

The time has come to supercharge your KFC SuperCoach team for the BBL run home. These are the best picks for Round 9 to set a platform for a late surge.

Marcus Stoinis’ price has been rising since his knock of 97 against Hobart.

Don’t get scorched by missing out of these KFC SuperCoach specials.

Round 9 of the KFC SuperCoach season doesn’t have a double, but this is the perfect chance to set your team up for a bumper Round 10.

Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers — who boast some of the premier KFC SuperCoach scorers — play twice in Round 10.

Marcus Stoinis will be the No. 1 target for many teams, although his ownership was 38.5 per cent as of Round 8.

Glenn Maxwell is still the most-popular player in the game and outside that pair, only Adam Zampa holds strong appeal this round from the Stars.

Haris Rauf will be tough to overlook in Round 10 but will have a huge break even after scoring 1 on his BBL return.

KFC SuperCoaches who jumped on Andrew Tye or Colin Munro for less than $100k will be thrilled as their prices continue to rise.

Tye has scored 127 and 69 in his past two games in a welcome return to form.

Jhye Richardson will be a priority target but whether you can afford him at more than $200k is another matter.

He’s going to jump again in price before Round 10 but at least Rashid Khan or Mujeeb Ur Rahman could be traded then as they’ll depart for an international series in the UAE.

Mitch Marsh looks the other must-have from the Scorchers, hitting the ball with serious power and bowling 2-3 overs a game.

These are the best players to target for Round 9 to set yourself for the last double of the season and a successful run home.

TOP TARGETS

Marcus Stoinis (Melbourne Stars) BAT-BWL

Projected price: $167,000

Don’t go into Melbourne Stars’ Round 10 double minus Stoinis. After a lean tournament by his standards, he showed his true capabilities with 97 not out and 132 KFC SuperCoach points against Hobart in Round 7. Every game is a step closer to him getting back to his best with the ball too and that will only increase his scoring. If he opens twice and bowls 6-8 overs in Round 10, the return could be enormous.

Dawid Malan (Hobart Hurricanes) BAT

Projected price: $160,000

Seems to have found his groove for the Hurricanes after a score of 15 on debut. The world’s No. 1 ranked T20 batsman scored 39, 75 and 26 in his next three innings, producing a KFC SuperCoach average of 58 during that stretch. He’s going to bat in the top three for the Hurricanes and is a player capable of scoring well whether his team has a SuperCoach double or not. He’s certainly capable of finishing BBL10 with a flourish as Hobart looks to lock in a finals berth.

Jhye Richardson has been the best BBL bowler of the summer.
Jhye Richardson has been the best BBL bowler of the summer.

Jhye Richardson (Perth Scorchers) BWL

Projected price: $220,000

Richardson was the leading wicket-taker in BBL10 after his four-wicket haul against Sydney Thunder and his cameo of 20 from eight balls lifted him to a monster score of 165. That will mean he costs about $220k in Round 9 — a steep price to pay for any player. But with a double on the horizon and another price rise certain, do you really want to risk having to pay $250k next round? His successful return from shoulder surgery has been one of the stories of BBL10.

Josh Inglis has jumped in price since getting as cheap as $100k.
Josh Inglis has jumped in price since getting as cheap as $100k.

Josh Inglis (Perth Scorchers) WKP-BAT

Projected price: $166,000

Back in serious form after a slow start to BBL10, Inglis is clearly the No. 1 wicketkeeping option for the Round 10 double. His price continues to rise after bottoming out at about $100k and he’s set to cost more than his starting quote of $161k for the Scorchers’ double. Regardless, you’ll need to find the money to get him unless you’re willing to take a punt on West Indian Andre Fletcher or to take a gloveman without a double such as Josh Philippe or Alex Carey.

Mitch Marsh has been in incredible hitting form for Perth Scorchers.

Mitch Marsh (Perth Scorchers) WKP-BAT

Projected price: $166,000

It doesn’t get much better than an all-rounder with a double in KFC SuperCoach, especially when that all-rounder is the quality of Marsh. His role isn’t guaranteed with either bat or ball — he’s the sixth option with the ball when Aaron Hardie plays and bats at No.5. But the likelihood is he’ll get a minimum of four overs and at least one decent hit next round. The beauty of bringing him in this round is it will boost your team with another all-rounder for the single game week of Round 9.

Liam Livingstone has been back at the top of the order in recent games.
Liam Livingstone has been back at the top of the order in recent games.

Liam Livingstone (Perth Scorchers) BAT-BWL

Projected price: $115,000

One of the most dangerous of this year’s imports, the Englishman took his time to showcase his hitting prowess last season. But from Round 7 onwards he launched 59 (39 balls), 39 (31 balls), 78 (49 balls) and 79 (54 balls). Those four knocks, from Livingstone’s last eight innings, proved to Australian cricket fans how lethal he can be. He’s unlikely to bowl as much as KFC SuperCoaches would like, so treat any overs as a bonus. His form this summer has mirrored last season but there’s no doubting his scoring ceiling in KFC SuperCoach.

Jason Roy has regularly reached the 20-run strike rate threshold.
Jason Roy has regularly reached the 20-run strike rate threshold.

Jason Roy (Perth Scorchers) BAT

Projected price: $160,000

The English opener reached 20 in each of his first four innings for the Scorchers, although he missed out on the strike rate bonus against the Renegades. While it often takes overseas signings several innings to reach their peak, Roy’s positive start had him averaging 64 KFC SuperCoach points after three games. That’s well beyond what any batsman managed last season. Most coaches are loathe to go into double game weeks without big hitters such as Roy — if they get away in both innings you’ll be chasing points all round.

Liam Hatcher has been a real find for Melbourne Stars but his role could change after Haris Rauf’s arrival.
Liam Hatcher has been a real find for Melbourne Stars but his role could change after Haris Rauf’s arrival.

Liam Hatcher (Melbourne Stars) BWL

Price: $118,800

Hatcher has become the Stars leading quick this tournament due to injuries to Dilbar Hussain and Nathan Coulter-Nile. His role will change after Haris Rauf slotted back in, although Hatcher will still be one of the go-to bowlers for Glenn Maxwell. If he’s sharing duties at the death with Rauf, he’ll need to be considered ahead of the Round 10 double. Hatcher started the season at a bargain $42k but made an immediate impression with KFC SuperCoach scores of 95, 61 and 77 in successive matches.

Adam Zampa celebrates a wicket with Stars keeper Seb Gotch.

Adam Zampa (Melbourne Stars) BWL

Projected price: $183,000

Ranked as one of the leading T20 spinners in the world, Zampa has underlined his quality with a prolific tournament for the Stars. In a perfect world, his price would have dropped by Round 10 and given KFC SuperCoaches an easy choice for the Stars double. That won’t be the case after scores of 105, 44, 98, 59 and 45 to Round 9. He’s still a good buy regardless of price and teams will want to have Stoinis, Zampa and Glenn Maxwell at a minimum from the Stars for next round.

POD PICKS

Haris Rauf (Melbourne Stars) BWL

Projected price: $194,000

The best KFC SuperCoach BBL cheapie of BBL09 is back. Rauf, who snared 20 wickets in 10 matches last season, was named in Melbourne Stars squad for the first time this summer last round. He’ll cost about $200k in Round 9 but will be close to a must-have for the Stars Round 10 double anyway if he replicates his BBL09 efforts. If you’ve got the money spare to pay up this round, you can get a jump on other KFC SuperCoaches who wait for his price to fall further.

Sandeep Lamichhane is one of the BBL’s most consistent bowlers.
Sandeep Lamichhane is one of the BBL’s most consistent bowlers.

Sandeep Lamichhane (Hobart Hurricanes) BWL

Projected price: $129,000

Mid-season arrivals never get the KFC SuperCoach love they deserve, especially when their team doesn’t have a double. Lamichhane was only in 2 per cent of teams last round despite being one of the BBL’s best tweakers. His role in the Hobart team is assured as the Hurricanes only have young spinner Wil Parker as insurance. And although D’Arcy Short is another slow option for skipper Peter Handscomb, Lamichhane will bowl four overs in most — if not all — games. He’s prone to conceding runs but is also a regular wicket-taker.
