Mission Daniel Sams starts now.

The No. 1 KFC SuperCoach points scorer of BBL09 hasn’t gotten cheaper than his starting price of $194,900 and that’s been a problem for more than 60 per cent of teams.

Targeting double game week players means finding the cash for Sams has been tough — unless you started him.

Sams scored 63 or more in four of the opening five games of BBL10, including 153 against Brisbane Heat.

His price jumped as high as $230,200 as a result, putting him out of reach as coaches scrambled to load their teams with Sixers and Renegades for the Round 6 double.

But with a Thunder double on the horizon in Round 8, Sams should be at the top of your priority list.

Daniel Sams has displayed his hitting prowess this season.
Daniel Sams has displayed his hitting prowess this season.

He emerged as one of the BBL’s premier bowlers last campaign, topping the wickets chart with 30.

And he’s become a weapon with the bat for the Thunder this season, floating anywhere from No. 5 to No. 7 to launch balls into the stand when required.

Sams is going to be a popular captaincy choice when the Thunder and Heat share the double in Round 8 and you can get a jump on those who wait by picking him up in Round 7.

His average puts him on par with the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Rashid Khan and D’Arcy Short as a captaincy option in Round 7 and his double next round only adds to Sams’ importance.

Don’t throw your structure out completely just for one player, but if you’ve built your team value and chosen the right cash cows, Sams should be within reach.

TOP TARGETS

Daniel Sams (Sydney Thunder) BAT-BWL

See all the reasons to make Sams your top trade target for Round 7 above. You might have to sacrifice a player such as Kane Richardson to make it happen, but it will be worthwhile. Don’t be surprised if he runs through the Heat’s batting line-up this round.

Jack Wildermuth is enjoying a breakout summer.
Jack Wildermuth is enjoying a breakout summer.

Jack Wildermuth (Brisbane Heat) BAT-BWL

Wildermuth has batted as high as No. 3 for the Heat and is performing a prominent role with the ball. The batting form he showed for Australia A hasn’t exactly translated to the BBL, but he was still averaging 70.8 points after five rounds thanks to a Round 2 score of 151. The beauty about Wildermuth is his all-round role means he’s unlikely to score less than 30. In his opening four games of BBL10 he posted 151, 46, 53 and 33. He’s one of the must-have Heat players for their Round 8 double.

Lewis Gregory (Brisbane Heat) BAT-BWL

The other all-rounder in the Heat team, Englishman Gregory started his stint in Brisbane with a bang when he scored 104 KFC SuperCoach points on debut against Hobart Hurricanes. He’s batting at No. 6 and bowled seven overs across his first two matches in teal. After snaring 3-22 from four overs on debut he went for 0-38 off three in his second game. But the beauty of all-rounders is their secondary skill often salvages a KFC SuperCoach score and Gregory scored 29 from 27 balls in that game. His mid-season arrival means he’s in less than 2 per cent of teams.

Big-hitting opener Alex Hales has been in red-hot form for Sydney Thunder.

Alex Hales (Sydney Thunder) BAT

Hard to believe the big-hitting Englishman bottomed out at about $80k midway through last season. Since the midway point of BBL09 Hales has been the Big Bash League’s most dominant batsman. His brutal knock of 71 from 29 balls against Melbourne Stars will mean he won’t come cheap by the Thunder’s Round 8 double, but it’s going to be hard to leave him out if he continues that barnstorming form. If you don’t grab him this round, you’ll likely need to find close to $200,000 in Round 8 which is a lot to pay for a batsman.

Kiwi speedster Adam Milne is a huge threat for the Thunder.

Adam Milne (Sydney Thunder) BWL

The Kiwi quick has brought serious heat to the BBL. His dual threat in the power play and at the end of an innings makes him one of the best KFC SuperCoach targets from the Thunder ahead of their Round 8 double. Milne went wicket-less in two of his opening three matches but still managed SuperCoach scores of 40, 73 and 36. That bodes well for when his thunderbolts inevitably rattle an opposition team soon. While teammates such as Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha have jumped in price, Milne will still be affordable this round and next.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman is filling a different role for Brisbane Heat this season.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is filling a different role for Brisbane Heat this season.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Brisbane Heat) BWL

Mujeeb’s role change for the Heat has yielded greater results this summer — both in his wickets tally and KFC SuperCoach. Mujeeb has predominantly accumulated points due to his economy rate in recent seasons but boasted seven wickets in four matches after his haul of 5-15 against Hobart in Round 5. That resulted in the highest KFC SuperCoach score of any player for that round, 158 points. His price surged to $141,800 and he’s projected to be $160,000-$170,000 heading into Round 7.

Tanveer Sangha has been a revelation for Sydney Thunder.
Tanveer Sangha has been a revelation for Sydney Thunder.

Tanveer Sangha (Sydney Thunder) BWL

What a revelation Sangha has been after starting the season at $42,000. After totals of 141 and 73 in rounds 4 and 5, the young leg-spinner rose to $137,900 with a break even of -72. That would suggest he’ll cost anywhere from $160,000 to $170,000 for Round 7, a steep price to pay from a bowler who many coaches had at bargain-basement price. Sangha is not only proving a wicket-taker but has been tough to get away, conceding only 31 runs across 7.2 overs in rounds 4 and 5. That’s the perfect combination for KFC SuperCoach.

Marcus Stoinis is expected to resume bowling in Melbourne Stars’ Round 7 match.
Marcus Stoinis is expected to resume bowling in Melbourne Stars’ Round 7 match.

Marcus Stoinis (Melbourne Stars) BAT-BWL

The Stars have forecast this is likely to be the round Stoinis resumes bowling. The star all-rounder has been building toward his bowling return since being injured in late November playing for Australia. KFC SuperCoaches enjoyed an average of 64.9 from Stoinis last season despite him only bowling two overs. The prospect of him bowling and opening the batting for the Stars could make him one of the top point scorers during the run home. Just beware Haris Rauf’s arrival could mean he doesn’t bowl four overs every match.

Rashid Khan (Adelaide Strikers) BWL

Any round you go without a player as popular as Khan (46 per cent of teams in Round 5) is dangerous. It only takes one monster score from a player with high ownership to leave other coaches a long way behind the pack. He might be expensive, but Khan is one of the players coaches can be confident will be worth $200,000 or more. He’s taken at least one wicket in every game for the Strikers and is regularly adding to his KFC SuperCoach scoring with batting points. A perfect Round 7 captain.

Mitch Marsh (Perth Scorchers) BAT-BWL

Relinquishing the captaincy has enabled Marsh to take on a more-regular bowling role for the Scorchers in recent matches. His efforts against Adelaide Strikers underlined why Marsh is a perfect KFC SuperCoach pick, especially in rounds where no team plays twice. In the first game against Adelaide, Marsh took 2-14 and scored 75 points despite being dismissed for one. In the second, he only bowled two overs for 0-15 but hammered 38 not out from 24 balls to pocket 62 SuperCoach points. Marsh is capable of a triple-figure return soon and still at an affordable price for a player of his dual threat.

Josh Inglis is much cheaper than his starting price in KFC SuperCoach.
Josh Inglis is much cheaper than his starting price in KFC SuperCoach.

Josh Inglis (Perth Scorchers) WKP-BAT

Every KFC SuperCoach loves a bargain and Inglis is shaping as exactly that. The Scorchers gloveman started BBL10 at more than $160,000 yet was available for $103,300 in Round 6. A break even of one will mean you will have to pay more than that in Round 7, but Inglis will still be considerably cheaper than his starting price. After a slow start to the tournament, he found form with KFC SuperCoach scores of 36 and 69 against the Strikers.
