Jamie Spragg is Australia’s new king of banter after being crowned the official Buckethead Coach for BBL10. And he’s learnt plenty from England’s Barmy Army.

They’re tough to beat but Cricket fanatic Jamie Spragg is getting pretty close.

And the man crowned the official KFC Buckethead Coach of BBL10 has drawn inspiration from the famous supporter group.

The Brisbane local was the winner of KFC and News Corp’s joint search for the best cricket banter in Australia.

Spragg, 44, hasn’t graced a cricket field since his junior days but he’s seen – and heard – plenty from the stands.

“It’s more from just being at the cricket,” Spragg said of the inspiration behind his winning entries.

“Spending an Ashes Test next to the Barmy Army is always a bit of fun.”

He’s seen them in full voice in England, too, making the trip over for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and, with a bucket load of cash - $11,000 – Spragg has more plans.

“I’ll get to the Ashes Test and I’ll try and get to the MCG for the T20 World Cup final next year,” Spragg said of what he’ll do with his prize, which also included a year’s supply of chicken and an official Buckethead tracksuit from KFC.

For now, though, he’ll be at the Gabba on Friday night, cheering on the Brisbane Heat in the BBL Finals with his young family.

While it’s cricket and banter after hours for Spragg, who works in business analytics, by day, it’s all about crunching numbers.

A job which goes hand-in-hand with another of his favourite pasttimes, KFC SuperCoach.

“We (Spragg’s group of friends) have been playing fantasy sports for about 20 years,” he said.

“EPL, NRL SuperCoach, BBL…I might even have a go at AFL SuperCoach this season.”

KFC SuperCoach NRL is his main game, though, and his first player picked this year is young Storm star Harry Grant, after his incredible debut season of 2020.

Many others agree, with the 22-year-old currently the 10th most-popular in KFC SuperCoach.

But come November, Spragg’s focus will be back on flying the flag for the Aussies in the crowd – in a friendly way of course.

Look out for the man giving it back to the English supporters at the Gabba – if they make the journey down under – there’s a fair chance he’ll be wearing the golden KFC bucket on his head.
