Ben Kennan: Broadbeach Robina cricket club mourns 17-year veteran

A Gold Coast Cricket Club is mourning the loss of an inaugural first grade player whose playing career spanned 17 seasons.

THE Broadbeach Robina Cricket Club is mourning the loss of inaugural first grader Ben Kennan, whose playing career spanned 17 seasons.

Kennan made his Gold Coast first grade debut with the Cats at 17 in the club’s first season in Gold Coast’s top grade in 1993/94.

The opening bat played his final game for the club in second grade in 2010.

He was remembered as a charismatic and enthusiastic mate in a statement released by the club on Thursday morning.

“BRCC are deeply saddened by the loss of Ben Kennan who was a much loved past player of our great club,” it read.

“Ben was a member of our inaugural Gold Coast Cricket first grade side as an aspiring 17 year old way back in 93/94.

“A solid contributor through the 90s, Ben developed many lifelong friendships in his time at our club, he was always full of beans and was the life of the party!!

“Our deepest condolences to Alison, Joel, Naomi and family.

“Forever a Broadbeach Cat, RIP Ben Kennan

Kennan was the son of late Broadbeach Aussie Rules president Harry Kennan and the brother of another Broady veteran, Joel.
