JAM PACKED with star athletes, action shots and an inspiring design, the 2018 Commonwealth Games’ first television commercial has been unveiled.
The commercial was revealed to an intimate audience at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) Headquarters in Ashmore today as the first component of the Greatness Rarely Seen campaign to be officially launched on 26 December this year.
GOLDOC Chairman Peter Beattie said the advertisement was about marketing the Gold Coast and starred 43 athletes who were filmed over 12 hour days.
“The concept is great, the images atmospheric and they form a wonderful GC2018 call to action,” Mr Beattie said.
“Today’s ‘sneak peek’ caps off a hugely exciting time for GOLDOC as we leave behind 12 months of very good planning and head into a new year of delivery that will see us launch more eye-catching elements of Greatness Rarely Seen and some very significant community programs.”
Four athletes in the commercial attended the reveal, including Gold Coast marathon runner Michael Shelley, elite gymnast Rianna Mizzen, decathlete Cedric Dubler and para-sport swimmer Brenden Hall OAM.
Mr Shelley said it was an exciting experience to be a part of the Games’ commercial and he could feel the atmosphere building on the Gold Coast.
“It’s a very exciting time ... it’s not that far away when you think about it,” he said.
“I think they portrayed it very well, the Gold Coast will accept it and embrace it and I think ... the build-up will start kicking off right now until 2018.”
GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters said today’s unveiling of the Games first commercial was just one of the many ‘firsts’ encountered for the first regional city to host the Commonwealth Games.
“On the sport front, with 18 sports and a record seven para-sports, GC2018 comprises the largest competition schedule ever in a Commonwealth Games,” he said.
Other firsts include beach volleyball, women’s rugby sevens and the para-triathlon debuting at the Games in 2018.
