ANXIETY almost forced swimming legend Libby Trickett to pull out of participating in the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay.

SWIMMING legend Libby Trickett almost pulled out of participating in the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay.

Trickett, who was the first of the high-profile runners to participate in the relay in Townsville last month, said she was suffering from anxiety about flying with newborn baby Edwina for the first time.

“I think most mums get anxiety about doing things for the first time with a newborn and I certainly was very nervous about it and almost pulled out multiple times,” Trickett, 33, told Confidential.

Trickett, who won five gold medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, had given birth to Edwina three weeks earlier while also caring for 2-year-old daughter Poppy.

“Fortunately my husband was really supportive and It was such a big honour and it doesn’t come around very often. We made the effort and it was well worth it,” she said.

Trickett said Edwina was already an easier baby than Poppy and after a life of achieving in the pool and as a radio presenter on Triple M, she was learning to be content with life at home as mother of two.

“If I keep Eddie fed and clean that’s a win and anything other than that is icing on the cake,” she said.

She and husband Luke picked the name Edwina because they had expected a boy, who they planned to name Eddie.

The middle name Daisy was a way to continue the floral theme they started with Poppy.
