Brisbane designer Daniel Moore has turned out two dresses for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to wear during the Games

BRISBANE designer Daniel Moore has created two special dresses for Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to wear during key events at the Commonwealth Games, but it hasn’t been a pain-free process.

EXPLAINER: Prince Charles back in Australia

BRISBANE designer Daniel Moore has created two special dresses for Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to wear during key events at the Commonwealth Games.

Moore, of Alter-Ego Brisbane, was approached by Ms Palaszczuk just weeks ago to design pieces for her to wear for tonight’s opening ceremony and as part of her official duties to welcome Charles, the Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The 38-year-old, who started working with renowned Brisbane designers such as Paul Hunt and now has 15 years’ experience designing haute couture and bridal fashion, said he had been working long hours to turn the dresses around on time.

“I work best under stress,” he told Confidential.

Moore created a tailored, pink silk pencil dress for the opening ceremony and a patterned blue and yellow organza silk dress for her time with Prince Charles and wife Camilla.

He said it was a matter of striking a balance between standing out but not overshadowing the events and people Ms Palaszczuk was around.

“We worked with the Premier from start to finish,” he said.

“She had a very clear idea of what she wanted – we knew the colours and fabrics she liked – and she knows her style so we worked with that and then we added our own little touches. Throughout the process she has been very down to earth and made it feel comfortable so it was a great experience.”

Moore said he was thrilled to be given the opportunity and was both excited and nervous to see his designs in the global spotlight.

“It’s very special to be asked to do this,” he said.

“I am honoured to be able to do it.”
