THIS is the moment it all became too much for Games boss Peter Beattie.
GOLDOC chairman Peter Beattie and CEO Mark Peters broke down in tears while thanking GOLDOC staff for their hard work and loyalty during the Games.
Speaking to staff at GOLDOC headquarters on the Gold Coast today, GOLDOC Chairman Mr Beattie said it was the first time he had ever cried while speaking.
“You’ve been an extraordinary team and really good people to work with,” he told the staff.
“Your loyalty has been extraordinary.”
The tears continued as Mr Beattie thanked Mr Peters for his efforts.
“He’s been on this journey right from the beginning,” he said.
“There are very few people who started at the Bid Book and went through and delivered the Games. He’s an extraordinary person. He was a pleasure and honour to work with.”
GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters also cried as he addressed the GOLDOC staff.
“Don’t look at me, I’m not much help,” Mr Beattie said.
Mr Beattie and Mr Peters, who finish their contracts with GOLDOC on August 31, said they would provide personal references for any GOLDOC staff looking for work.
“If there is any employer, anywhere in Australia who wants the best staff who are world-best practice in everything ... they’re here,” Mr Beattie said.
