JUST being a part of the Socceroos conversation again excites Tommy Oar.

The Brisbane Roar star yesterday was named in an extended 30-man squad for Australia’s World Cup qualifier against Thailand in Bangkok on November 15.

LISTEN UP: Roar assistant coach Ross Aloisi returns for this week’s A-List podcast to tell Marco Monteverde and Sam Phillips that Brisbane’s first win of the A-League season was a better effort than what a lot of others thought of the performance.

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou will cut the squad to 23 next week but for Oar, who hasn’t played for the Socceroos since coming on as a substitute in Australia’s 4-0 thrashing of Bangladesh in Dhaka a year ago, at least being in the mix is a step in the right direction.

“I’m really happy about it,” said the 24-year-old attacker, who returned to the Roar in January to restart a career that dipped after a forgettable move last year from Dutch outfit FC Utrecht to English Championship club Ipswich.

“I’ve still got a bit of work to do, but it’s good to know that I’m being considered,” he said.

Postecoglou said he wanted to watch games “all over the world” this weekend before making the selection call.

“We have players who are in the squad or on the fringe, including those playing in the A-League, that are just starting their seasons. I wanted to have another look at them after they showed good signs in the opening rounds,” he said.

Oar joins former Roar star Luke Brattan (Melbourne City), Jason Geria (Melbourne Victory), Josh Risdon (Perth Glory) and stalwart Tim Cahill (Melbourne City), in the extended Socceroos squad.
