Renold Quinlan has pulled off a huge upset on the undercard of Paul Gallen’s ‘Origin Rumble’ boxing fights against Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant.
Quinlan is a former world champion but at the age of 33 was well past his prime after losing nine of his previous 11 fights, including eight in a row.

And his fight on Thursday night went to script as rising boxing star Jack Bowen had the clear upper hand in the first three rounds.
But Quinlan turned the tables in a stunning fourth round, landing several brutal shots including one that cut Bowen’s eye.
Then in the fifth round, Quinlan forced Bowen back against the ropes and finished the job with an excellent right hand that sent his opponent falling to the canvas just seconds into the round.
Bowen tried to get back to his feet but immediately stumbled and staggered across the ring as his corner dived in to keep him upright and the referee stopped the fight.
Main Event commentator Ben Damon said: “This is the upset of the year in Australian boxing … he has done the unthinkable. The veteran, the journeyman, he’s produced something that will not be forgotten anytime soon in Australian boxing.”
It was a mega upset no one saw coming. Bowen had won his first seven professional fights by knockout and was favoured to continue his rise up the ranks.
Quinlan went into the fight with a mixed record of 14-11, 9KOs — and produced a boilover on par with his win over Daniel Geale that saw him claim the IBO super-middleweight title in 2016.
Real happy for Quinlan. Has fought plenty of killers lately and copped it a fair bit but thatâs a sick win. https://t.co/81a8BZss0G

“Renold Quinlan once had a similar night – he stopped Daniel Geale for an IBO world title,” Damon said.
“But this may be even bigger. That was just phenomenal, what he just did.
“That is just phenomenal stuff. You have to think about where this man has been in his professional boxing career … A stunning, massive right hand.”
“That is insane,” former world champion Jeff Horn added.
“Bowen was winning the fight, 95 per cent of the fight.”
