‘I’m ready’: Lomachenko wins gruelling comeback fight before Haney callout

Vasily Lomachenko has beaten Jamaine Ortiz in a gruelling fight that went the distance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Vasily Lomachenko has beaten Jamaine Ortiz in a gruelling fight that went the distance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Lomachenko, making his return to the ring seven months after joining Ukraine’s war against Russia, beat Ortiz by unanimous decision, 115-113, 116-112, 117-111.

Lomachenko will now likely take on undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney in a unification bout.

Haney watched on from ringside and said after the fight: “I think it wasn’t the best performance ... but congratulations. Hopefully we can get it on.”

In reply, Lomachenko said: “I’m ready.”
