Unbeaten Australian star George Kambosos said he was going to do “whatever it takes” to beat American Devin Haney at Marvel Stadium in June when the pair square off to become an undisputed lightweight champion.

The bout, the first for “Ferocious” Kambosos in Australia since 2017, was confirmed on Friday.

Kambosos became the unified lightweight champion of world boxing when he beat Teofimo Lopez at New York’s Madison Square Garden last year, taking his fight record to 20-0.

Kambosos said he was going to silence all the doubters and take down Haney, who zoomed in to a press conference on Friday.

“Five years I’ve been on the road, five years I’ve been doing it tough, doubted by many,” he said.

“I knew one day I would step into this stadium and collecting that other belt.

“This is the biggest boxing event to be held in Australia and I‘m going to do whatever it takes to come out victorious on June 5.

“Haney has the only belt missing from my collection and he will know what he’s in for when he steps up into the lion’s den.

“I plan to not only take his belt but put a serious dent in his young career.”

He hasn’t fought in Australia since October 2017 and has chosen Melbourne as the destination to defend his titles against World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Haney, who has been WBC world champion since 2019.

The American, who is also undefeated in his 27 career fights, has defended his title four times and the fight is set to draw up to 50,000 fans to the stadium and a worldwide TV viewing audience.

Hostilities between the pair of fighters intensified after Kambosos kept calling Haney a “kid” during the press conference,

“I’m a man and I will show him that in the ring, respect me as a man,” Haney said.

“He was forced into this fight, he did not want to fight me. He did not choose me.

“I’ll fight you anywhere, I’ll fight you in your backyard if I have to. I’ll show you.”

The a fight comes after Kambosos‘ world title bout with Ukraine star Vasily Lomachenko was called off when Lomachenko opted to remain in his home country of Ukraine and assist in the war effort.

Haney said he was “on the cusp of greatness” and the fight would take him there.

“I began my career fighting in small bars in Mexico. Now I’m on the cusp of greatness showcasing my skills on the world’s stage fighting for lightweight supremacy,” he said

“I didn’t come this far to only come this far.”
