What’s more stressful, planning a wedding or preparing for a world title boxing match?
According to Tim Tszyu and Alexandra Constantine, who will tie the knot on Sunday, the answer is simple.
“In terms of vibes and nerves, a wedding is a walk in the park compared to a fight,” Alexandra said.
“Give me a wedding any day. We’ve actually planned it in a really short time – around six weeks, which is unheard of.
“Tim’s weight cut is usually longer than six weeks, so we’re doing well.
“We have about 120 guests, keeping it small and beautiful.
“We’ve also managed to secure a really special location for our shoot, which has never been done before, but you’ll have to wait to find out.”
Tim, who went on a five-day bucks party to a secret location in the middle of the wedding planning, will be driven to the wedding venue by a convoy of between 50 and 100 cars.
He’s far more relaxed now than when shedding the final kilogram during fight week.
“When you don’t have to do much, it’s not too bad,” he said. “Alex is a bit stressed. She’s feeling the pressure.
“It’s as if she’s in a fight now.”
The couple first met when Alexandra began training at Tim’s gym in Rockdale more than eight years ago. It was love at first sight, says Tszyu, who popped the question during a walk at a local park near their home in the Shire last December.
As fate would have it, Sunday’s wedding will be exactly one year to the day since the boxer asked Alexandra to be his bride.
Tim’s sister Anastasia is the maid of honour while the best man is one of Tszyu’s oldest mates.
“Shoyo is a childhood friend of mine, I’ve known him since we were kids,” Tszyu said. “Apparently he’s showing me a slide show, so I’m starting to worry.
“He’s known me since before I was a boxer, so there’s plenty of funny stories that will come up during his speech.”
In classic fighting fashion, Tim was spotted shadow boxing in his fitted Giorgio Armani suit midweek, while Alexandra picked up her dress made by world-renowned designer Steven Khalil.
Later in the week, she had the last session of a six-week facial treatment.
“We’re going for the no injectable look,” she said.
“I didn’t want to inject filler in my face, we’re all trying to get away from that.”
There was no word on what role – if any – Tim’s famous father Kostya, who is now based in Russia, will have in his son’s wedding.
