Former AFL star Brendan Fevola revealed he’s lost nearly 12kg in three weeks as part of his preparation for a fight night involving fellow footy players.

Ex-Brisbane and Carlton forward Fevola, Collingwood great Dane Swan, Western Bulldogs champion Adam Cooney and three-time premiership winner Cameron Mooney were all unveiled on Tuesday as the competitors who will take part in an All Stars Boxing event at Margaret Court Arena in August.

At a promotional press conference in Melbourne, Fevola outlined how he dropped so much weight and spoke about his motivation for shedding the kilos ahead of his bout with ex-Geelong star Mooney.

“I’ve been working pretty hard. I was nearly 128kg three weeks ago and I’m down to about 116kg and a half,” Fevola said.

“I’ve been eating really well, that’s been the main thing. I’ve got a kitchen now so haven’t been having Uber Eats for the last four months for five meals a day. But the training’s really hard.

“I’m under no illusion: I can’t fight and obviously Cam is in pretty good nick — he walked in with his top off and I’ve got a bit of a fat gut. I know I can’t fight, but I’m going to go in there and you don’t want to (disrespect) the sport of boxing. I want to make sure I look good when I hit the canvas.

“It’s bloody hard. I’m coming from zero fitness. I’ve done absolutely no training in 13 years since I retired, so I’m gassed but I’m working up my fitness. Hopefully I can last the six minutes — and if not, Cam will knock me out. But that’s OK.

“If I go out there looking fat and hit the canvas, it’s embarrassing. But if I look good when I hit the canvas, at least I’ve got something to go by.”

Mooney said he’s stayed fit since retiring but boxing is a completely different ballgame.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve had to do anything too competitive, so I’m really looking forward to getting out there in that ring,” he said.

“I have stayed relatively fit since finishing footy, but boxing training is a whole new regime.

“Fev is an entertainer — he was on the footy field, and now he’s made a living out of it, so once he steps onto that canvas, there will be bit of that, but I think he’ll really pack a punch.”

Brownlow Medallists Swan and Cooney will square off in the other headline clash.

“I still hold the grudge against Swanny for a game in 2010 when he torched us then they (Collingwood) went on to the grand final,” Cooney said.

“I think Swanny’s pretty tough, and he’s in pretty good nick too so I’ve got a fair bit of work to do.”
