An Aussie in Las Vegas for Tim Tszyu’s world title blockbuster has been robbed of thousands of dollars in scary late night incident on the Strip.

The Newcastle man, who asked not to be named for this story, was enjoying a night out at a club when he was asked to leave by two men he thought were security guards.

He was escorted out of the club via a side door, where an older woman said she’d take care of him and drive him back to his hotel in what he assumed was a taxi.

“She said, ‘I’ll get you home, honey’ but looking back now, they weren’t even security guards, they were just working with her,” he said. “I went with her, but don’t remember anything after that except for her voice in the car.”

The Aussie admits to consuming plenty of drinks over the night, but doesn’t do drugs.

He says he was no more intoxicated than a regular night out, and believes he might have been given something.

“I went to the hospital and got a cheek swab and it came up as ‘illicit substances’ but I’ve never taken a drug a day in my life,” he said.

At some point on the drive home, he said, the female driver stole his ATM card.

After waking up the next morning, he discovered he’d been robbed of (AU) $2300 in two separate transactions.

The thieves tried three more times to withdraw thousands more dollars over the next 24 hours, but by then the man’s bank had cancelled his card.

He can’t remember how she obtained his PIN number, but has spoken to the police about the incident.

“The police said they know who this group might be,” he said. “I was on the lookout for honeytraps, but I wasn’t expecting to be on the lookout from an older lady who said she was gonna help me get home.

“It’s scary. I wasn’t going to argue with these guys at the club, and wasn’t going to do anything about an older lady.

“I was speaking to some people today and they said things like that happen every day here.”
