FORMER NRL player Ben Hannant would have to improve his behaviour if he wants to become at state politician according to MP and former referee Tim Mander.
Mr Mander made his comments in jest yesterday after the Bulletin revealed Hannant had become a member for the Liberal National Party Currumbin Branch.
Hannant told the Bulletin he would consider running for the seat of Currumbin in the 2020 election “if the timing was right”.
Mr Mander said he found out Hannant had become a member of his party when he read the Bulletin on Thursday.
“It is great that we have people from all walks of life that want to be members of the LNP and we welcome his membership,” he said.
“He is going to have to improve his behaviour (to become an MP).
“I remember a couple of times on the football field I had to penalise him a couple of times, but in the world of politics who knows?”

Mr Mander said the current member Jann Stuckey had been doing a good job.
“As far as I know Jann is not going anywhere,” he said.
“Jann continues to work hard for her electorate and that’s what she continues to do.
“Two years away from the election there is plenty of time to speculate about those sorts of things.”
