Last week’s NBL Blitz on the Gold Coast was a hoops junkie’s dream!

Ten teams gathered on the Sunny Coast offering us a sneak peek at the NBL’s stars and newcomers set to light up the 2023-24 season, and the team from Baseline Hoops were there.

Pre-season basketball is always intriguing, showcasing new team dynamics; coaching changes and superstar performances as they strive to find form and chemistry before the real action begins in round 1.

NBL SEASON STARTS THURSDAY!

Melbourne United emerged as early frontrunners for NBL24, dominating the Blitz with three convincing wins, including a victory over reigning champs, the Sydney Kings. The loss of MVP Xavier Cooks leaves a big question mark for the Kings, who struggled with an 0-3 start in the Blitz. Tyler Cook and Bryce Cotton shone as they geared up to dominate the league once again, both averaging over 36 SuperCoach points.

Here’s a quick guide on who to Buy, Sell, and Hold in SuperCoach NBL as we approach round 1:

BUY

Tyler Cook (SEM Phoenix) $277k

Cook, with his NBA experience, is a strong buy for SEM Phoenix. He showed high scoring potential after arriving as an injury-replacement player, making him a valuable addition to your fantasy team.

Aron Baynes (Brisbane Bullets) $240.3k

Despite being overlooked by many experts, Baynes impressed during the Blitz. His 20-point, 20-rebound game against Illawarra showcased his upside potential. With eight games in the first five rounds, he’s a steal at this price.

Taran Armstrong (Cairns Taipans) $69k

This under-the-radar cheap option could shine, especially with potential increased playing time due to an injury to Taipans’ import PG Patrick Miller. Armstrong’s elite playmaking skills, which have caught the attention of NBA scouts, make him a smart investment.

Bryce Cotton (Perth Wildcats) $466.3k

Cotton is a fantasy star, consistently scoring big. His strong form in the pre-season, averaging 37 SuperCoach points per game, suggests he’s set for another stellar season and will be worth the big price tag.

Alex Sarr (Perth Wildcats) $115k

Sarr is a rising star and one of the top Next Stars to watch this season. He showcased his potential in a standout performance against G-League Ignite in Las Vegas, and that form carried into the Blitz, where he scored over 26 SuperCoach points in two out of three games.

HOLD

Ben Ayre (SEM Phoenix) $107.9k

Ayre made his presence felt off the bench for the Phoenix in the Blitz. We should monitor his minutes as the season progresses. If he continues to play a significant role, he could be a valuable budget pick with upside.

Keanu Pinder (Perth Wildcats) $385.9k

Coming in as the third priciest SuperCoach option, Pinder showed promise in the pre-season, but his role may change as Cotton takes over the Wildcats’ offence. Holding is a wise move to assess his regular-season performance.

Bobi Klintman (Cairns Taipans) $115k

Klintman’s impressive Blitz performances earned him a starting spot at the Taipans, but the return of Tahjere McCall could affect his playing time. Hold to see how this situation unfolds.

Matthew Dellavedova (Melbourne United) $255.3k

Delly’s recent NBA stint is evident in his impressive start at the Blitz, where he ranked fifth in average SuperCoach points per game. It’s wise to hold onto him and monitor his performance alongside Luke Travers and Jo Lual Acuil. If he maintains this form, he could become a valuable asset.

SELL

Jamaal Franklin (Adelaide 36ers) $277k
