ADELAIDE 36ERS
An off-court coaching controversy rocked the Adelaide 36ers’ pre-season, however they still managed a win over last year’s champions at the Blitz.
A couple of exciting recruits join the roster, while the Isaac Humphries and Dejan Vasilijevic dynamic continues as Adelaide plans for a return to finals contention.
Here are the 36ers players to target for SuperCoach NBL25.
STARTING ROSTER
1. Dejan Vasiljevic | $343,700 | Guard
Adelaide’s scoring weapon, Dejan ‘DJ’ Vasilijevic is coming off his best NBL season yet, averaging 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists across NBL24. His SuperCoach value significantly jumped by almost $100k last season and is ranked 11th in the league for this year. If he continues his impressive form, he’ll make for a strong selection for your team.
2. Isaac Humphries | $329,800 | Centre
After an injury-riddled 2022 season, Humphries has been working his way back up to career-best form, which we saw last season as he notched up an average of 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds. As a result, the 6’10 centre’s SuperCoach value also saw a massive jump by $92k across the year, Humphries ranked just behind DJ at 12th league-wide heading into NBL25. A crucial piece of the 36ers’ line-up and defence, that’s where Humphries will rack up the SuperCoach points.
3. Kendric Davis | $277,000 | Guard
He hasn’t played an NBL game yet but Davis is already ranked among SuperCoach’s top targets. Fresh off his 2024 NBA G-League season where he averaged 18.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and a huge 8.9 assists, Davis was named to the G-League Rookie Team. He clocked 22 and 37 SuperCoach points in his two hitouts at the Blitz so if Davis can bring his playmaking to the 36ers court, then he’ll quickly rack up scores and make for a strong selection – remember assists are worth more SuperCoach points. He’s one to keep an eye on.
4. Jarell Martin | $277,000 | Centre/Forward
After two seasons in Europe, NBL champion and NBA veteran Jarell Martin joins the 36ers roster. The last time he appeared in the NBL, he averaged 27.8 SuperCoach points in his championship winning season with the Kings. Across his 59 NBL matches, he’s been able to consistently impact both ends of the court, averaging 16.8 points and 7.7 rebounds. He brings both NBL and international experience to the court and could be one whose value spikes as the season gets underway.
UPDATE: Martin is recovering from a patellar tendon injury that will could him off the court until November. The 36ers have signed former NBA player Montrezl Harrell ($277,000 FWD/CTR) as his replacement.
5. Lat Mayen | $133,100 | Forward
His NBL24 season with Cairns saw his role take a big step forward, so if Mayen can continue that rise in Adelaide he may be the best value selection. Able to quickly hit the scoreboard and notch up defensive plays in reduced minutes, Mayen averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 rebounds last season. Mayen’s SuperCoach value practically doubled last year as he took on extra minutes, and his Blitz showings have also impressed, collecting 10 points, and five and seven rebounds, at each showing. He’s a cheapie worth considering.
6. Jason Cadee | $119,500 | Guard
NBL veteran Jason Cadee is able to get a good look at the scoreboard, however his form significantly dropped last season and his SuperCoach value did, too. If he can return to some stronger numbers on the stat sheet, he’d be one to pick before his price increases. He notched up a team high 24 SuperCoach points against Tasmania at the Blitz.
7. Alex Starling | $127,700 | Forward
He’s got one NBL season under his belt now. What will we see from 34-year-old Starling across NBL25? He didn’t quite fulfil expectations (from a SuperCoach perspective at least) as his value dipped by $105k across the season, averaging 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds across 11.9 minutes court time. If he can increase his scoreboard impact then he’d make for a cheap buy. See how he goes across early rounds.
BRISBANE BULLETS
They’ve farewelled their star shooter, with All-NBL Second Team player Nathan Sobey off to South East Melbourne for the upcoming season. But the Bullets have bolstered their roster with import talent to boost them back to finals contention.
Brisbane will also count on some of their young rising stars to have a breakout year and contribute to their rise back up the ranks.
Here are the Brisbane players to target for your SuperCoach squad.
STARTERS
1. James Batemon | $277,000 | Guard
Off the back of playing in European leagues and fresh to Brisbane and the NBL, James Batemon’s pre-season showings have already pointed to exciting signs. Expected to suit up in the key point guard role, Batemon’s recruitment stems off his abilities to run in offence, create plays and opportunities while shooting from the outside. His defensive play is a priority for the 27-year-old also, so expect him to rack up the points across both play making and defensive stat areas.
2. Keandre Cook | $277,000 | Guard
American import Keandre Cook brings a wealth of experience to the Brisbane roster for NBL25. The 6’5 wingman is versatile with his skillet lending to both ends of the court with his efficiency on offence extending to outside the arc. Cook’s main focus will be to impact the scoreboard for the Bullets so for SuperCoach purposes it will come down to his scoring numbers each game. If Cook comes out with a significant defensive presence, then he’ll quickly rise up the SuperCoach ranks and will be one to have on your team.
3. Josh Bannan | $272,500 | Forward
Quickly becoming a dangerous force for the Bullets, Bannan’s SuperCoach value more than tripled by the end of NBL24, jumping by $165k. The handy 6’10 power forward averaged 11.9 points and 7.2 rebounds in his first NBL season last year and is only set to get bigger and better. He finished second for point scoring, first for rebounds and fourth for assists for the Bullets last year, making him one to keep an eye on this year and an effective SuperCoach scorer.
UPDATE: Bannan missed the Blitz with a hand injury and is in doubt for the early rounds.
4. Tyrell Harrison | $237,800 | Centre
Entering his eighth season with the Bullets, Harrison is a handy all-rounder to have on the roster. NBL24 saw his value skyrocket by $124k as he averaged 9.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with a 59 per cent field goal accuracy. Equipped to make an impact at either end of the court and with a few new additions to the team, Harrison’s breadth of experience puts him in a ripe position to play a significant role for NBL25.
5. Deng Adel | $232,000 | Forward
His name has been on the one to watch list of some basketball greats, Deng Adel has spent the past few years playing in Europe and is expected to bring a high level of physicality back to the NBL. He averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in France and his level of versatility and athleticism has those around the league excited about what he could bring back to the domestic game. One to watch.

OFF THE BENCH
6. Sam McDaniel | $213,200 | Guard/Forward
McDaniel finished in the top five for Brisbane’s point scoring, blocks and rebounds last season, coming off his best NBL season yet. A key all-rounder, his SuperCoach value doubled by the end of NBL24 and for what he can produce – averaged 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds last season – McDaniel is a relatively cheaper selection for your team, although he did not get any court time during the Blitz.
7. Rocco Zikarsky| $95,700 | Centre
He’s one of the league’s most exciting prospects, and with the hope that he is granted more than seven minutes game time this season, Zikarsky has the potential to take the league by storm during NBL25. With a season under his belt, he’s now notched up crucial experience and after training with the Boomers squad over the off-season, Zikarsky could make for a super cheap bench pick.
CAIRNS TAIPANS
A fresh-faced Cairns roster is set to embark on the NBL25 season, with four of their five SuperCoach top ranked players all recruits.
How will their three American imports adapt to the NBL game style and is this the season Taran Armstrong breaks out to lead this team back up the ranks?
A lot to play out for Cairns which will make for an interesting watch.
These are the Taipans players to keep an eye on when picking your squad for SuperCoach NBL.
STARTERS
1. Pedro Bradshaw | $277,000 | Guard
From the NBA Summer League to Cairns, Bradshaw is set to bring his shooting efficiency to the league, with the Taipans expecting an immediate impact from the small forward. A consistent scorer and strong on the rebound throughout college and his stint in the NBA Summer League, the versatile 6’7 wing is expected to lead the charge for the Taipans this season, therefore likely to rapidly collect SuperCoach points.
2. Rob Edwards | $277,000 | Guard
He attracted the Taipans’ eye with his ability to both hit the scoreboard and create scoring opportunities for his team, and American import Rob Edwards brings a wealth of G-League experience to Cairns. He’ll collect SuperCoach points with his playmaking ability, with assists worth good SuperCoach points. It will be interesting to see how these new American imports adapt to the NBL style of play. One to watch after the early rounds.
3. Tanner Groves | $277,000 | Centre/Forward
The third American import fresh to the NBL scene, Tanner Groves is expected to play a crucial role for the Taipans. Following a big senior year in college, where he averaged 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds, the 205cm centre has developed on Oklahoma’s Summer League roster and in stints in Europe and China before making his way to Cairns. Groves sets the hard screens and fights for rebounds, so will rack up SuperCoach points via his defensive plays.
4. Dillon Stith | $232,000 | Forward
Another fresh face to the Cairns line-up, however no stranger to Australian basketball, Dillon Stith is a workhorse who finally gets his full time NBL opportunity. The 32-year-old power forward most recently lined up for the Casey Cavaliers in the NBL1, where he averaged an impressive 19.6 points,8.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. If he can translate that impact to the NBL stage, no doubt he will quickly lock in SuperCoach points.
5. Sam Waardenburg | $225,600 | Forward/Centre
Despite his SuperCoach value on the decline last season after battling a niggling injury, Waardenburg enters his third season with the Taipans. The 6’10 forward was still able to notch up an average of 9.7 points and 5.2 rebounds, including a career-high 14 rebounds in a pre-season game, showing what he’s capable of. If he’s able to come out with a hot start early in the season, Waardenburg proves a solid pick while his value is on the cheaper side.
OFF THE BENCH
6. Taran Armstrong | $199,200 | Guard
He impressed in his rookie season, now Taran Armstrong is ready to take the NBL by storm. The guard racked up an average of 7.7 points (46% FG), 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his first season showing and his SuperCoach value dramatically spiked by $139k by the end of NBL24. His value ahead of this upcoming season is on the lower side than where he ended last year, making him a strong off the bench pick to start the season.
UPDATE: Armstrong will miss the first two games of the season with a calf injury.
7. Kyrin Galloway | $147,500 | Forward
Another off-season recruit for the Taipans, Galloway’s SuperCoach value also significantly increased by the end of NBL24, jumping by $96k. His rebound game is strong, averaging 3.4 in addition to his 5.7 points last season for Adelaide and if he can build on those numbers, he’ll make for a good choice to round out your team bench. One to keep an eye on early in the season.
ILLAWARRA HAWKS
They’ve lost their team MVP Gary Clark to opportunities in Japan and NBL Next Star AJ Johnson to the NBA, however have stocked up with import Trey Kell III to fill the gaps.
STARTERS
1. Sam Froling | $350,700 | Forward
A workhorse for the Hawks, Froling enters his sixth season the top ranked SuperCoach Illawarra player. Averaged 15.4 points (56 per cent FG), 7.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists per game in NBL24, Froling sits at the costly end of the value spectrum however is a strong choice for both offensive and defensive stats. A consistent SuperCoach scorer, most games delivering between 20 and 40 points.
2. Trey Kell III | $363,000| Guard
The American import will make a major impact on the Illawarra line-up. The 6’5 guard averaged 17.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game last season for Adelaide. His SuperCoach value dramatically increased by $149.9k after his exceptional NBL24, rounding out the season at $411,200. Notched up a 30-plus SuperCoach score 15 times last season, peaking with a score of 69 in round 13, making him one of this season’s top premium selections.
3. Tyler Harvey | $282,200 | Guard
Entering his sixth season with the Hawks, USA-based import Harvey’s strength is his offensive game. Averaged 15.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists across NBL24, Harvey sits within the top two for Illawarra’s SuperCoach rankings. SuperCoach value ebbed and flowed in NBL24 but was on the rise in the final rounds.
4. Hyunjung Lee | $157,000 | Guard
In his debut NBL season with the Hawks Lee earned his way into the starting five rotation. The 6’7 South Korean guard averaged 7.3 points and 3.7 rebounds. Coming out of the US collegiate program at Davidson, where Steph Curry played, Lee set himself up as one of the best shooters in college basketball. Expect his scoring to lift.
4. Wani Swaka Lo Buluk | $136,300 | Forward
Recognised as a premier defender, Swaka Lo Buluk’s defensive form slightly dipped last season so we’d expect after a strong off-season, he’d have a plan to level up. Averaged 6 points, 1.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game across NBL24.
OFF THE BENCH
5. William Hickey | $106,000 | Guard
Graduating from development player to the main roster, Hickey impressed last season as he averaged 5.2 points per game (51 per cent FG), 2.9 reboundsand 1.2 assists in 12 minutes average game time, Hickey’s SuperCoach value was on the rise across the final four rounds of NBL24, jumping $35k to $140,700 at the end of the season. One of the top cheapies to consider.
6. Todd Blanchfield | $115,000 | Forward
Notching up 400 NBL games last season, Blanchfield remains a versatile choice off the bench. Averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds across 12.6 minutes last season. After an early knock to his SuperCoach value in NBL24, Blanchfield’s value was once again on the rise in the second half of the year.
7. Daniel Grida | $96,200 | Forward
Grida enters his sixth NBL season with the Hawks. A re-aggravated knee injury left him sidelined for the second half of NBL24, however still averaged 5.2 points and 2.1 rebounds across 12.4 minutes in 10 games. One to watch as he bounces back.
MELBOURNE UNITED
Melbourne was oh, so close to another championship title after the five game finals series with the JackJumpers to close out NBL24, and their off-season movements have been designed to make a quick impact.
With NBA opportunities calling, United released Luke Travers from his contract yet welcome back championship player Jack White after his stint in the NBA and G-League, a move set to bolster their attack.
United starts with the best roster of any team, with five double-game weeks in the first eight rounds – look to start at least two Melbourne players in your SuperCoach team.
STARTERS
1. Chris Goulding | $268,000 | Guard
The United skipper is Mr Reliable, playing into his 18th season in NBL25. The sharpshooter was United’s leading points scorer last season. Third highest SuperCoach score on United’s roster, with 616 total points – peaked in round 8 against Sydney Kings with 51 SuperCoach points. Averaged 16.9 points per game, 1.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds. Three point percentage was 40.1 per cent. A key player for United with both top SuperCoach scorers Travers and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr departing. Goulding’s price was at a decline at the end of NBL24, meaning you can have him at a cheaper value to launch your team.
2. Matthew Dellevadova | $312,900 | Guard
Finished in the top five of United’s SuperCoach rankings, totalling 565 points last season. Averaged 12.9 points per game, 3.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists. Delly’s assist factor is his big mode of SuperCoach scoring. Scored 41 SuperCoach points in Round 15 against New Zealand, seeing his value spike by $29.4k. Has showed in recent outings with the Boomers he continues to be a workhorse in defence, and would be expected to continue that momentum into NBL25.
3. Jack White | $232,000 | Forward
Returns to United for NBL25 after two years playing in the NBA and G-League. The NBA and NBL champion is a huge signing for the beaten grand finalists, one of the biggest moves of the off-season and a strong replacement for Luke Travers. Across 57 games in the G League, White averaged 13.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and close to a block per game while shooting the ball at 37.5 per cent from three. Played a starring role at the Blitz, making him one of the most popular selections in SuperCoach NBL. Take confidence in selecting White on your team, despite the decent cost.
4. Ian Clark | $234,800 | Guard
At the end of last season, Clark was sitting No.1 on United’s SuperCoach ‘Who’s Hot’ rankings. He’s the reigning NBL Best Sixth Man. In his second season in Melbourne, Clark earned more court time and lots of valuable scoring minutes, playing 30 games including the five-game finals series. Held the highest percentage of shooting beyond the arc across NBL24, shooting at 41.4 per cent while averaging 13.6 points per game, making him a strong shooting choice.
5. Marcus Lee | $203,600 | Centre
Lee played a massive role for the JackJumpers in their championship winning season, and now returns to United to fill the vacant big man role left by Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. The 211cm centre averaged 6.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.8 blocks across 15 minutes game time throughout NBL24. Defensive game his perk, but a handy offensive scorer when required. SuperCoach scoring peaked at 35 points in Round 16 against United. SuperCoach value was on a decline toward the end of NBL24, could be a cheaper option with potential to quickly rise.
OFF THE BENCH
6. Kyle Bowen | $127,000 | Forward
Bowen settled back into the NBL system with United last season after four years in the collegiate system at St Mary’s. Averaged 13.2 minutes across 356 games last season and 3.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Bowen will be looking for an increased role coming into NBL25. Ninth in SC ranking on United’s roster, Bowen had multiple outings where he notched up 28 in SuperCoach scoring, totalling 292 points for the season.
7. Flynn Cameron | $106,600 | Guard
Cameron’s first NBL campaign last season saw the New Zealander play in 31 regular season games, averaging 9.4 minutes, allowing him to secure his footing on the United roster. Averaged 3.7 points per game, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists, however with a change in United’s roster, Cameron may be a chance for extra game time. SuperCoach score peaked in Round 7 against the Phoenix, posting 26 points.
NEW ZEALAND BREAKERS
The most active NBL team in the off-season, the Breakers will boast a new-look team for NBL25.
The Breakers fell short last season, so they’ve built a roster to support superstar and All-NBL First Team player Parker Jackson-Cartwright and stacked up in defensive options with a mix of experience and youth.
These are the Breakers stars to target in SuperCoach for season NBL25.
1. Parker Jackson-Cartwright | $421,200 | Guard
Coming off the back of last season where he was named in the All-NBL First Team, finished third in the league’s MVP race and second in total SuperCoach points (behind Bryce Cotton), Jackson-Cartwright enters NBL25 with a hefty price tag. The Breakers’ key man will rack up the points in all the high-scoring areas, averaging 20.6 points, 5.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds in NBL24 while his SuperCoach value increased by $124k last season. Probably one name that’s skipped over in those top pick conversations, but Jackson-Cartwright qualifies as a genuine No. 1 pick.
2. Freddie Gillespie | $277,000 | Centre
NBL25 will be the first time Aussie fans see Freddie Gillespie hit the NBL court. The NBA product has played 29 games with Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic, has lined up in the G-League and has developed his game in the German league. The 6’10 import will bring his defensive game to the NBL. We will have to wait to see him in the regular season, though, after he was hit with a one-match ban for headbutting Sydney Kings player Shaun Bruce at the NBL Blitz.
3. Matt Mooney | $277,000 | Guard
Bound for the NBL after a season in Italy, Mooney is set to play a hard defensive role in addition to his ability to score for the Breakers. The former Cleveland Cavalier and New York Knicks shooting guard was clinical in his time in Europe last season, averaging 11.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists across 26.5 minutes of game time, so will be one who is expected to make a quick impact whether as a starter or coming off the bench. Brought across to the Breakers to work with Jackson-Cartwright, Mooney may be the one that feeds him the ball, and rack up SuperCoach points at the same time. Put up a huge 44 SuperCoach points in the Breakers’ loss to Sydney Kings at the Blitz.
4. Jonah Bolden | $245,500 | Forward/Centre
After a three-year basketball hiatus, Bolden appeared for the Sydney Kings last season and put on a strong showing in his comeback. Averaged 8.5 points and 6.4 rebounds, Bolden joins the Breakers to fill the gap left by departing players Will McDowell-White and Finn Delany. His SuperCoach value dipped toward the back-end of NBL24, however now that he has a full season back under his belt, expect Bolden to maximise his efforts on court.
OFF THE BENCH
5. Mitch McCarron | $161,000 | Guard
A prime player, and his NBL experience will be a welcome addition to this Breakers roster. Entering his ninth season, the former Adelaide captain is able to control the ball and apply quick impact. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds last season, which is slightly lower than his usual output and resulting in a dramatic dip in his SuperCoach value. With a fresh team start, expect McCarron to come out with a fire in his belly, one to add to your team early while his stock is low. A cheaper option who can play in both offensive and defensive roles.
6. Sam Mennenga | $154,800 | Center/Forward
He’s a scorer and plays to his strength in defence, and Mennenga returns home to New Zealand after his first NBL season in Cairns last year. Standing at 6’9, he averaged 6.8 points and 3.9 rebounds which saw his SuperCoach value almost double. An option to fill a bench spot, comes in cheap and can have an impact.
7. Mojave King | $232,000 | Guard/Forward
King, who left the NBL to pursue NBA opportunities last season, will line up for the Breakers for NBL25. The 6’5 wing averaged 3.6 points and 1.1 rebounds in NBL22 but returns to the league further developed. His price is high for someone who has had a season away; one to watch and see where he lands after round 1.
PERTH WILDCATS
On the verge of the NBL finals last season, the Wildcats have retained almost the same roster for NBL25, with their starting five re-signing.
They’ve farewelled star Alex Sarr to the NBA and Jordan Usher to Europe and have welcomed NBL Next Star Izan Almansa to the west for his first NBL campaign.
STARTERS
1. Bryce Cotton | $448,500 | Guard
The top ranked SuperCoach player in NBL24. Cotton is a Wildcats veteran, having spent his entire NBL career in Perth, with NBL25 to be his ninth. Last season he averaged 22.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Peaked with 66 SuperCoach points in round 9 of NBL24, and recorded 10 matches with a SuperCoach score of 40-plus. A great captain option, he should sit at the top of most SuperCoach wish lists despite the high price tag.
2. Keanu Pinder | $347,600 | Forward
Ranked seventh league-wide and second for Perth in SuperCoach scoring last season. After a big NBL23 when named to the NBL Second Team and was a serious MVP contender, Pinder didn’t make quite the same impact in NBL24. Averaged 13.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game, Pinder produced a SuperCoach score of 50-plus twice last season. Can be explosive when on a roll in attack and can be a weapon in defence, now that he’s settled in with the Wildcats expect Pinder to lift to his NBL23 form.
3. Kristian Doolittle | $276,400 | Forward
His first season in the league, Doolittle’s impact on the court was big, averaging 9.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and2.1 assists per game. The athletic forward ranked in the top 25 SuperCoach players in NBL24, with his SuperCoach score peaking Round 12 with 45 points. Now settling into the league, the 26-year-old should build on last season
4. Tai Webster | $207,100 | Guard
Webster took on a larger role in his first full season with the Wildcats, which saw him lock down a spot in the starting five. Averaged 8.9 points (46 per cent FG), 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in NBL24. Produces steady SuperCoach scores of 15-30 points per game, peaking with a 37 score in Round 16. A stable and consistent role player and does the ground work effectively.
5. Hyrum Harris | $149,300 | Forward
Harris found himself in the Wildcats’ starting five by the end of NBL24. Averaging 5.8 points (56 per cent FG), 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists, Harris has come back from a niggling knee injury in the off-season and would be expected to level up. SuperCoach value was on the rise towards the end of NBL24, with his peak score in the last round of 32 points.
OFF THE BENCH
6. Jesse Wagstaff | $145,200 | Forward
A longtime veteran of the Wildcats – captain, six-time championship player with 474 games to his name. Still has more to give. Averaged 6.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists last season, can still make an impact when required. Keeps a steady SuperCoach score, producing most between 10 and 20. A consistent mid-range player at the end of his career, but can be a good inclusion as his value increased across the middle section of NBL24.
7. Ben Henshall | $69,000 | Forward
He’s young but with an NBL season under his belt, Henshall has the opportunity to begin his rise as a rookie. The 20-year-old came out firing in his first NBL game, producing a season-high SuperCoach score of 29. His value was on a consistent increase over the final month of NBL24, and after a big pre-season, Henshall is set for a big sophomore year. Played 16 games last season, averaging 6.1 minutes for 3.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game, and made his case for more minutes during the regular season with some big scores at the Blitz. One of the top bench options in SuperCoach this season.
8. Izan Almansa | $115,000 | Forward
The 19-year-old Spanish Next Star is excited to make his mark in Perth, with plans to improve his shooting and strength as he prepares for his NBA dreams come next year. After the rise of Alex Sarr, could we see an exciting spark from the youngster?
SOUTH EAST MELBOURNE PHOENIX
With their star marquee player Mitch Creek departing the NBL this season and Rhys Vague also on the move, the Phoenix have been busy signing one of the NBL’s best in Nathan Sobey and stocking up on their import players, in a boost to a roster that finished on the bottom last season.
These are the Phoenix players to target in SuperCoach NBL25.
STARTERS
1. Nathan Sobey | $349,200 | Guard
The Phoenix’ star off-season recruit impressed across the opening weekend of the NBL Blitz, leading the team’s SuperCoach scores for their first official showing with 24 points. A high-priced guard, Sobey averaged 20.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists for Brisbane last seaosn – his best season in four years. A dominant force on the scoreboard and well rounded in the other key stat areas, Sobey will be one to quickly rack up scores on the SuperCoach front.
2. Derrick Walton Jr | $356,900 | Guard
The highest-profile import and highest-priced Phoenix player, Derrick Walton Jr’s first outing at the NBL Blitz had him sitting just behind Sobey with 22 SuperCoach points. The NBL23 finals MVP averaged 16.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and a huge 6.3 assists across his championship season with the Kings, and his assist count will be a major factor in his SuperCoach scoring.
3. Matt Hurt | $277,000 | Center/Forward
Off the back of his impressive G-League season with Memphis Hustle, import Matt Hurt’s sharp shooting abilities will translate to his SuperCoach impact. The 6’9 24-year-old averaged 20.5 points with an elite 50.6% FG, 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists last G-League season and if he can bring that all-around game to the Phoenix, he’ll be one to select on your team. Impressed at the Blitz, scoring 20, 36 and 25 across his three games. Keep an eye on his game across the early rounds, before his value spikes.
4. Joe Wieskamp | $277,000 | Forward/Guard
Another import from the G-League enters NBL25 for the Phoenix with Maine Celtics forward Joe Wieskamp coming off his best season yet. A strong Blitz performer, averaging 29.6 points across his three games, Wieskamp averaged 16.8 points with a 52% FG, 6.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists last G-League season. He is the same price as Hurt and offers a similar proposition – if he can bring the same level of game to the NBL court he’ll make for a solid addition to your team.
5. Jordan Hunter | $256,300 | Centre
Moves to South East Melbourne after four seasons with the Kings, including back to back titles, and Hunter will bring his combo game on attack and strong defensive plays to the Phoenix court. A roster now stacked with import talent, Hunter’s NBL experience along with Sobey will see him play an impactful and potentially larger role. Averaged 10.3 points with an incredible 60% FG and 7.0 rebounds last season (his best yet), Hunter is one who comes a little cheaper but who can still rack up the SuperCoach points. One to watch.
OFF THE BENCH
6. Ben Ayre | $190,400 | Guard
His SuperCoach value dramatically increased by $156k at the end of the NBL24 season as Ayre took on a heavier role in his first season with Phoenix. If that trend continues into the coming season, Ayre could be a bang for your buck player on your SuperCoach team. He averaged 10.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season.
7. Matt Kenyon | $162,800 | Guard
His defensive strength is where he makes a quick impact, Matt Kenyon averaged 5.9 points and 5.1 rebounds last season which saw his SuperCoach value increase by $50k by the end of NBL24. A relatively cheap selection choice to come off the bench if his form continues to rise.
SYDNEY KINGS
Champions of NBL23, the Kings failed to return to the top end to push for a third consecutive title last season.
Lacking a defensive strength, Sydney have welcomed back their Grand Final MVP and former captain Xavier Cooks to settle the ship and have also bolstered their defensive spin with the additions of Bul Kuol and Cameron Oliver coming into NBL25.
STARTERS
1. Jaylen Adams | $392,900 | Guard
Entering his third season with the Kings, Adams’ impact has been immediate and is expected to continue. He averaged 19.4 points, 5.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season, as he led points scored, assists and was second in steals team-wide. The most expensive King on the roster, Adams is ranked third league-wide to launch the season. One of this season’s top premium options.
2. Xavier Cooks | $365,500 | Forward
Defensive structure lacked for the Kings last season so Cooks will be a welcomed return for Sydneysiders after spending last season abroad. The NBL23 season had the champion player finish second in the league (behind Bryce Cotton), with his peak performance in round 2 against Melbourne United as he notched up a huge score of 82. Not only strong in offence, Cooks’ defensive rebounds, blocks and steals is where he racks up the SC points.
3. Cameron Oliver | $277,000 | Forward/Centre
We haven’t seen Oliver play in the NBL since 2020, however the former All-Second Team player is set for a return to Sydney for NBL25. Across the 2020 season he boasted a whopping average of 17.3 points and 10 rebounds, and since then has taken his game all over the world. Assertive in defence which will play into Oliver’s SuperCoach point scoring each week. It will be interesting to see how coach Brian Goorjian chooses to play him and after three seasons away from the league, Oliver didn’t show any signs of taking time to adjust to the Kings’ style of play at the Blitz, where he was the top-ranked player. Shapes as a huge SuperCoach bargain.
4. Bul Kuol | $232,400 | Forward/Guard
His Paris campaign with South Sudan put his name on the world map, and now we get to watch Bul Kuol take his game even further with the Kings after three seasons in Cairns. Kuol averaged 12.7 points and 3.1 rebounds last season and is only on the rise as he wrapped NBL24 with a SC value increase. Kuol makes for a solid defensive option to fill your roster.
5. Jaylin Galloway | $233,700 | Forward
After a short stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, Galloway returns to the Kings with an international learning experience under his belt. One of the brightest young talents across the league, Galloway finished NBL24 in the top five of the Kings’ points and assists leaders and averaged 10.3 points (54 per cent FG), 3.4 rebounds per game. At only 21, the dual NBL champion is set to only get bigger and better, a worthy choice as someone who can notch up SC points without breaking the bank.
OFF THE BENCH
6. Kouat Noi | $192,400 | Forward
With Cooks, Oliver and Kuol bolstering the Kings’ defence, it leaves fans questioning how best Noi will be used. Noi boasts strong defensive numbers while can also provide quick bursts on the scoreboard, as he averaged 10 points and 4.5 rebounds per game across NBL24.
7. Alex Toohey | $191,900 | Forward
Toohey is one to watch as a key talent of the NBL. Only in his second NBL season, Toohey makes for a strong roster choice coming off the bench. Averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds across 15 minutes of game time in his first stint in the league, and as he develops around the big bodies of the NBL, he’s only going to get better.
TASMANIA JACKJUMPERS
The JackJumpers have locked in a roster to chase back-to-back glory coming off the NBL24 Championship title.
They’ve bolstered their squad with NBL talent and American imports, however were thrown a curve ball as star players caught the eyes of the NBA.
Finals MVP Jack McVeigh – the man who hit ‘The Shot’ – is off to Houston on a two-way deal. And it’s only a matter of time until Will Magnay gets snatched up after his Olympic debut.
For SuperCoach players there’s still plenty of talent to pick for your squad. Here are the players to watch.
STARTERS
1. Will Magnay | $317,400 | Centre/Forward
Will missed a chunk of the early NBL24 year due to injury but still named the JackJumpers Defensive Player of the Year. Averaged 10.8 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds across the season. Magnay’s value dramatically increased last season, especially after he was selected for the Boomers, with his price increasing by $120k between Round 7 and 11.
2. Milton Doyle | $354,200 | Guard
The ultimate team player, a star import who was the JackJumpers’ assists leader last season, highlighted by a season-high 10 assists twice. Sits in the Jackie’s top five on key stat boards and was recognised in the All NBL Second Team. Expect him to deliver again in NBL25.
3. Jordon Crawford | $322,400 | Guard
Import who was a crucial part of the title series, averaging 16.1 points (second to Jack McVeigh), 3.2 assists (second to Doyle) and 2.6 rebounds. With McVeigh going to the NBA, Crawford has the opportunity to take the No.1 guard spot.
4. Sean Macdonald | $172,300 | Guard
Could be a breakout year for Macdonald. After two years as a development player, Macdonald made the starting five including in game five of the NBL finals. Strong in offence with the ability to swing back, Macdonald was the NBL’s most improved player for the season. Good choice before his value significantly increases.
5. Anthony Drmic | $191,900 | Forward/Guard
SuperCoach value fell towards the end of 2023-24 but Drmic played a crucial defensive role throughout the finals. Averaged 6.8 points and a career-high 4.7 rebounds and started in 36 of 37 games. If both McVeigh and Magnay depart the team, Drmic will get more game time and make more of an impact in his second year.
OFF THE BENCH
6. Clint Steindl | $101,400 | Forward/Guard
The NBL veteran may see more time coming off the bench but can make a quick impact. SuperCoach value dipped mid-season but climbed at the back end of the year. A solid bench choice.
7. Majok Deng | $142,100 | Forward
A veteran forward, had an injury-interrupted season but returned for the playoffs. Peaked Game 3 of the championship series off the bench, scoring 15 points in 16 minutes of play. With an incredible wingspan, Deng is relatively cheap.
8. Gorjok Gak | $157,700 | Centre
Gak’s SuperCoach price dramatically increased across the final six rounds of the season with the Phoenix. At 210cm, has a strong defensive game, averaging 4.9 rebounds and 5.4 points a game, despite an injury-interrupted season. A higher value than some of his championship teammates, not clear how the big man fits into a solid roster with McVeigh on the move.
9. Fabijan Krslovic | $90,500 | Forward
Back-up big who can extend his role all around, valuable for specific match-ups. Team vice-captain, played in all but one game last season averaging 10 minutes court time, provides an alternate option and quick fire spark when needed.
