Stefon Diggs begins ‘stupid’ routine in NFL Pro Bowl catch contest

NFL superstar Stefon Diggs loves the limelight, but this bizarre moment from the Pro Bowl left many scratching their heads.

The NFL’s revamped Pro Bowl Games raised more than a few eyebrows in more ways than one after Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs came out with a strange effort in the newly introduced Best Catch competition.

The 2023 Pro Bowl was the third selection of Diggs’ career, in a season where he recorded 108 catches for 1,429 yards and 11 touchdowns.

In the battle for conference supremacy, the NFL introduced a contest where Amon-Ra St. Brown faced off against Stefon Diggs to take the most spectacular catch.

St. Brown outscored Diggs in both rounds, winning the event for the NFC, but it was a bizarre moment from Diggs that caught the eye of audiences.

He started his round crouching behind the NFL cheerleaders, who were facing the mat on which the competitors were supposed to land as they made their catch.

Once it was Diggs’ turn, he got a running start and the cheerleaders scurried out of the way.

He then bounced on a trampoline through smoke to try and catch two balls that were thrown at him.

The entire sordid ordeal stunned NFL fans, and angered others who lamented the fall of the Pro Bowl to the “clown show” it has become.

NFL writer Charles McDonald described it as “absurd”.

Raiders running back Josh Jacobs called it “stupid”.

“Man, send us on vacation and call it a day,” he tweeted.

Bills long snapper Reid Ferguson said Jacobs, who himself had earned the second Pro Bowl selection of his career, “knew what the Pro Bowl has turned into.”

“If it’s so ‘stupid’, forgo the weekend in Vegas,” he said.
