It’s unclear why the fight broke out. Fans can be seen hopping the fence and running onto the field as referees and coaching staff attempted to de-escalate the situation.
“Fans, do not jump into this brawl,” the game’s announcer can be heard saying, before calling for a trainer to tend to a “hurt” player on the field.
“We need security out here please,” the announcer said.
At one point in the video footage, someone can be seen tossing a players’ helmet into the bleachers.
Dean Pritchett, the Fort Worth ISD assistant athletic director, said every player was ejected from the game, according to the Star Telegram. Dallas Roosevelt will play their JV team for the first half of its next game as an ejection comes with an automatic suspension for the first half of the next game.
The Dallas Independent School District said in a statement that the incident is under investigation.
“The UIL is aware of the incident involving Fort Worth Eastern Hills and Dallas Roosevelt high school students during a football game on Friday September 8, 2022,” the Dallas Independent School District said in a statement, per USA Today.
“The school and the local district executive committee are investigating and have the authority to impose penalties for involved students. The UIL will continue to gather information.”
Eastern Hills was eventually given the win and improved its record to 2-1, according to the Star Telegram.
Players who were involved in the fight will miss half of the next game they play, per UIL rules.
Roosevelt visits Italy (Texas) on Friday, while Eastern Hills is scheduled to play Kennedale (Texas) on Saturday at home.
