THE Broadbeach Cats have brought in a host of recruits they hope will push the club towards the QAFL grand final with tall talent and inside midfielders the priority.

Cats coach Craig O’Brien has detailed what he expects many of the top-line talent coming into the squad will bring in the 2020 QAFL season.

Salyn Stein (South Bunbury, South West Football League): “He is a little rover from Western Australia who is quick and has some silky skills. He is only a young kid and has a bit of work to do but I think he will be a good rover or dangerous forward. I’m sure he will play a lot of senior footy this year after impressing on the track.”

Sam Cunnington (Redland, NEAFL): “He is the brother of North Melbourne’s Ben Cunnington. Sam is a tackling machine and has a very strong body like his brother. He is incredibly professional with the way he trains and lifted the standard at training the last two weeks. He played at Redland last year and for Morningside for a few games towards the end. He is the sort of midfielder who improves your team.”

Jordan Moncrieff (Mt Eliza): “Jordan is going to be a really good player for us. He is 197cm tall but very athletic. He is very fit, has silky skills and is the sort of player who is very hard to match up on.

You put a tall on him and he is probably a bit too agile for them but if you put a small on him then he will be too strong in the air. Jordan and Sam are genuine leaders as well which we really lacked last year.”

Max Lower (North Adelaide, SANFL): “Max is another hard midfielder from the SANFL. He won a couple of best and fairests in the reserves which is still really good footy. He will improve our midfield. We have lost some midfielders but replaced them with some really hard, in and under players. We had good outside players but when you don’t have the hard-nosed ones then you can’t get the ball out to them.”

Kai Sheers (Southport, NEAFL): “Kai has been on fire with his time trials. It’s good to have him back from Southport full time. He is a Broadbeach junior and will add a lot to the group.”

Jed Turner: “No disrespect to the rucks we had last year but we didn’t have the size to go against our opposition. We have that now thanks to Jed. Where we were looking quite small we now look taller and we have the midfield stock who, if they get good use of the ball, can hurt sides through the middle of the ground.”
