With the Suns recording a historic QClash draw against the Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, we take a look at the 10 moments which defined the game.

SUNS AND LIONS CAN’T BE SEPARATED IN THRILLING DRAW

1. Nearly three minutes into the first quarter, Lions forward Sophie Conway sends a long kick inside 50. It clears the pack and rolls towards the goalsquare. Playing on the dangerous Jessie Wardlaw, Jade Prengelj comes off her player and scoops up the loose ball, sending a clearing handball out to Jacqui Yorston who kicks down the wing.

2. Six minutes into the first quarter with the Lions pressing, Lauren Bella charges towards a leading Ally Anderson who is running back with the flight. Both players show immense courage but Bella prevails, tapping the ball towards the boundary line for a throw in.

3. With just under four minutes to go in the first quarter, Tayla Thorn sends a clearing kick outside 50. Midfielder Molly Ritson charges around 30m to the contest alongside Rheanna Lugg. She scoops up the ball with one hand, sells some candy to get around Lugg and kicks down the wing.

4. Five minutes into the second quarter, forward Kalinda Howarth charges towards a loose ball inside 50 only to be taken below the knees by a sliding Kate Lutkins. She strolls back to take her set shot, converting from 30m out on a slight angle. After playing a huge role in the Suns’ bid for an AFLW license, the 20-year-old will forever remember her first AFLW major.

5. Moments after landing awkwardly in a marking contest, Howarth quickly forgets any pain when a Jasmyn Hewett sends a long ball inside 50. Leah Kaslar goes up for the mark and brings it to ground, allowing Howarth to swoop and kick around her body from 30m out to roll through the Suns second goal.

6. Three minutes into the third quarter, Jamie Stanton gathers a loose ball on the tip of the 50. She kicks towards the square and Brittany Perry reads it best to take an easy chest mark 15m out on an angle. She kicks truly to put the Suns within nine points.

7. Seconds into the fourth quarter, Lauren Bella wins the tap and follows up on the ground, paddling the ball to Leah Kaslar. As Kaslar bends down to collect the loose ball, she is collected in the head by Emily Bates who is running past. Kaslar struggles to her feet and is forced to leave the field, taking no further part in the game. It sets the tone for the physicality of the last quarter.

8. Moments later, the ball enters the Suns inside 50 and Sophie Conway bobs up with the ball. She is immediately set upon by Tiarna Ernst who drives her into the ground. Conway is worse for wear but gets to her feet and runs to the boundary line. It again sets the tone for a physical quarter to come.

9. With less than five minutes to go, Jamie Stanton wins a free kick just outside 50. She spots up Howarth on the lead who marks in the pocket. From 20m out and on a tough angle, Howarth runs in and kicks her third of the match and levels the scores at 28 apiece.

10. Jasmyn Hewett’s final few minutes were huge. The ruck/forward was everywhere and very nearly dragged her side over the line. With just over a minute to go, Hewett won the tap from an inside 50 throw in. The ball spills out to Breanna Koenen who goes to kick but is smothered by Hewett. The ball falls wide to a spare Lion who goes to handball but is tackled by Hewett, impacting the kick. The first, second and third efforts helped the Suns keep the ball inside their forward 50 but unfortunately they couldn’t generate a final score.
