Suns academy player Fitzroy Greenwool has been crowned the NEAFL’s Round 5 Rising Star nominee. Watch the four goals that helped earn the man, likened to Brisbane’s Charlie Cameron, the accolade.

SUNS academy player Fitzroy Greenwool has been crowned the NEAFL’s Round 5 Rising Star nominee.

Greenwool earned the accolade after booting four goals and collecting 17 disposals in Gold Coast’s 70-point win against the Northern Territory Thunder at TIO Stadium on Saturday.

It’s another step forward for the exciting 19-year-old small forward who has now played 15 games for the Suns NEAFL side since making his debut in Round 7 last year.

Hailing from Kowanyama in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Greenwool relocated to Cairns in his teenage years and resided at AFL Cape York House.

He came through the AFL Cairns juniors ranks for the Cape York Eagles and made his senior debut for the Cairns Saints in 2017.

Greenwool was spotted by the Suns Academy and joined the program last year, kicking eight goals in 11 games.

Suns NEAFL coach told the Bulletin Greenwool was one of the most talented small forwards to come through the club’s academy following his four-goal haul while Broadbeach Cats QAFL coach Beau Zorko has also likened him to Brisbane Lions talent Charlie Cameron.

“He isn’t dissimilar to Charlie (Cameron). He has a good leap on him and you know anything could happen,” Zorko said.

“He could snap a goal over his shoulder and think nothing of it. Those types of players are unpredictable but you’re more than happy to kick them the ball because they can bamboozle opponents.”
