Geelong livewire Tyson Stengle has signed a monster five-year deal with the Cats, repaying the initial faith the Cats showed in him.

Stengle attracted interest from rivals after a strong 2024 campaign, having kicked 31 goals in 15 games - including another three against Essendon last night.

But the 25-year old will remain in blue and white, helping repay the Cats for reviving his AFL career.

The new deal will see him remain in the hoops until at least the end of 2029.

Stengle qualified as a free agent at the end of the year because he had previously been delisted by Adelaide in 2020.

St Kilda showed major interest in Stengle, 25, in a bid to lure him to Moorabbin as a free agent for next season.

The Saints are on the hunt to bolster their forward stocks and goal kicking power for next season.

St Kilda offered as much as $800,000 a season to land the All-Australian and premiership livewire.

But Stengle, who has previously played at Richmond and Adelaide before reigniting his career in brilliant fashion at Geelong in 2022, has decided to re-sign with the Cats.

His signing caps a spectacular career revival after he was sacked by the Crows and forced to ply his trade for SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens.

He booted 44 goals across the 2021 SANFL season which saw Geelong take a punt on him as a delisted free agent at the end of that year.

Stengle went on to kick 53 goals in his first season at the Cats, finishing as an All-Australian in their 2022 premiership campaign.

It is a significant win for new football boss Andrew Mackie who has kept Stengle, Sam De Koning and Max Holmes despite rival interest in the Cats’ young stars.

Geelong is in the box seat to land Western Bulldogs’ midfielder Bailey Smith in this year’s trade period as the club looks to bolster its midfield stocks.
