The Phantom’s Formguide

(Ranked in order of SuperCoach significance in 2019)

Can Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy maintain his extraordinary 2018 scoring?
Can Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy maintain his extraordinary 2018 scoring?

Brodie Grundy (Ruck $708,200)

Last year’s top-ranked player starts favourite in 2019 but can he maintain his extraordinary scoring? No big man has gone back-to-back since Dean Cox. Priced accordingly.

Adam Treloar (Mid $594,200)

Can figure in the top-ranked midfielders this season. Average (109) back to where it belongs after falling in 2017. Must be included.

Dayne Beams (Mid $557,600)

Returning star set to be one of the major SuperCoach players in 2019 if his body allows it. Some value here.

Steele Sidebottom and Scott Pendlebury at Collingwood pre-season training.
Steele Sidebottom and Scott Pendlebury at Collingwood pre-season training.

Steele Sidebottom (Mid $551,700)

Huge finish 2018 — averaging 112 in final seven matches including finals — and commands respect again. SuperCoach draft position will be interesting.

Jeremy Howe (Def $497,200)

Better than 2018 average suggest after injury-affected score in his last minor round game. Should be prominent despite late start to the pre-season.

Scott Pendlebury (Mid $562,000)

SuperCoach star commands respect again but others have stronger claims after the 31-year-old posted lowest season average since 2008

Jack Crisp (Def $519,900)

Breakout 2018 with 10 SuperCoach tons and rates highly again this campaign.

Magpie Jordan De Goey will be hard to stop again in 2019.
Magpie Jordan De Goey will be hard to stop again in 2019.

Jordan De Goey (Fwd $476,400)

A SuperCoach star on his day but others still remain better placed if he’s only a part-time midfielder.

Tom Langdon (Def $416,600)

Starred at the business end of 2018, averaging 23 disposals, 10 marks and 100 points in Collingwood’s last three finals. Better than price suggests.

Taylor Adams (Mid $523,100)

Starting midfielder at almost every other club but where he places in stacked Collingwood line-up remains to be seen. Fantasy star on his day and can’t be taken lightly.

Brayden Sier (Mid $435,000)

Tough midfielder scored 70 points or more in seven of his first eight games of senior football in 2018, including maiden SuperCoach ton in Round 21. Tough at that price but keep in mind.

Taylor Adams, Ben Crocker and Jamie Elliott putting in the hard yards during the pre-season.
Taylor Adams, Ben Crocker and Jamie Elliott putting in the hard yards during the pre-season.

Jamie Elliot (Fwd $280,300)

Resuming after no start in 2018. Averaged 74 points or more in the past three seasons he’s been on the park. Well priced.

Tom Phillips (Mid $489,100)

Faded late after seven SuperCoach tons in the first 11 rounds last season. Having a good preparation, winning yet another Collingwood time trial, and could improve on 2019 form.

Will second-year Magpie Jaidyn Stephenson improve on his terrific debut season?
Will second-year Magpie Jaidyn Stephenson improve on his terrific debut season?

Jaidyn Stephenson (Fwd $347,400)

Can improve on super-impressive first-up effort last season but price a concern, especially given he will remain forward. Look elsewhere.

Brayden Maynard (Def $406,800)

While there doesn’t look to be enough room for the damaging left-footer to move into the Magpie midfield, he can produce on his day. Consider in SuperCoach draft.

Ben Reid (Fwd $299,700)

Has to get a start if he can prove fitness and is better than last start suggests. Do not dismiss at the price.

Josh Thomas (Fwd $413,800)

Can feature on his day but no real value in his selection this year. Keep in mind for late in SuperCoach draft.

Will Hoskin-Elliot (Fwd $380,200)

Important to the Magpies but SuperCoach scoring became too inconsistent in 2018. Look elsewhere.

Darcy Moore (Def/fwd $239,400)

Resuming after just the seven games last season. May need the outing but can’t be ignored at the price.

Daniel Wells (Fwd $302,900)

Has to command a starting spot if he’s ready to go in Round 1. Can figure but too much risk here — even at the price.

Tyson Goldsack (Def $257,400)

Resumed in the final series after missing minor round with ACL tear but unlikely to feature in SuperCoach this season.

Mason Cox (Fwd $334,900)

Won plenty of admirers late in 2018 but unlikely to have many in the SuperCoach community this season. Loses dual-position status.

MAKING THEIR CASE

Chris Mayne (Mid $370,400) would be unlucky to miss out after a terrific 2018 and draftee Isaac Quaynor (Def $153,300) should feature across half-back in his debut season. As should former Bulldog Jordan Roughead (Fwd/ruck $379,100), especially if a number of Magpie talls struggle again with injury.
