SUNS enforcer Nick Holman has finally succumbed the secret pain that has plagued him throughout his tenure at Gold Coast.
The Bulletin can reveal the extent of Holman’s back issues that have previously been unable to stop him from being Gold Coast’s most physical player at AFL level.
For the majority of the 2018 season the midfielder and half-forward had to avoid contact at all costs, wearing the orange hat at training so his teammates didn’t hit him.

But by the weekend it was Holman who was laying the biggest tackles for the team.
It’s what the 24-year-old has become known for and it’s a brand of football that allowed him to play a career-high 22 games last season despite his battle with his body.
Holman laid the second most tackles (121) behind Touk Miller (123) and he has the fourth most (61) of the Suns so far this season.
The former Carlton player worked with Suns staff to strengthen his back in the pre-season but it flared up again this week in the lead up to the club’s Round 15 game against Sydney.
