The measures put in place to protect students at Gold Coast school football carnival

UPDATE: Queensland School sport cancelled all representative school sport, hours after the completion of a South Coast Australian Rules carnival.

QUEENSLAND School sport cancelled all representative school sport, hours after the completion of a South Coast Australian Rules carnival.

In a statement from QSS, the organisation detailed a host of suspensions of school sport.

“All representative school sport cancelled until further notice,” the statement read.

“All representative school sport programs, including district, regional, state, national, interstate and international competitions, are cancelled until further notice from March 17, 2020.”

Students at the South Coast football at Ormeau on Tuesday sanitised their hands every time they came on and off the ground as part of stringent hygiene measures put in place.

The 10-12 years boys and girls South Coast tournaments went ahead at Ormeau on Tuesday as the world of sport at a professional and community level almost came to a complete stop on the same day.

The Queensland Department of Education said in a statement the tournaments, that had less than 500 people, were run in line with conditions set out by the Federal and State Governments at the time.

Additional hygiene measures undertaken at the event included:

– Students had to use hand sanitiser to clean their hands prior to entering the field and

again at the end of the game when leaving the field.

– Students had to wash mouth guards before placing them into their mouths, especially

if dropped during game.

– Students could not share water bottles under any circumstance – they had to have

their own water bottles.
