COAST CLUB OPENS UP ABOUT CHANCE OF PLAYING QAFL IN 2020
The 2020 QAFL season was due to kick off on the weekend of ANZAC DAY last month but joined a host of other sports to postpone their seasons due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While there is still hope a 2020 season will be played, AFL Queensland will likely adopt a range of protective measures to align with the AFL and protect player safety.
It is hoped that the season can commence in late June or July but AFL Queensland will only act when they have met the Australian Institute of Sport Return to Sport National Guiding Principles endorsed by National Cabinet earlier this month.

A raft of additional measures which may form part of the 2020 QAFL season that are currently being discussed include...
-Teams will play each other once during nine rounds played over 10 weeks with finals to follow
- A new draw will be developed and issued to clubs to ensure that home games are evenly distributed
-Dependant on health advice and current police laws, social distancing rules may still apply, such as no more than 500 persons in a public area and maintaining a 1.5m distance between patrons
-Temperature testing may be considered for players prior to each game
-Game quarters may be shortened in line with AFL rules
-Possibility that bench numbers could be extended from four to six players
-Clubs may not be required to field three teams (colts, reserves and seniors) due to the late start and will not be penalised under their licence agreement

AFL Queensland is expected to outline their road map for the resumption of community football in the coming days following an impending announcement from the AFL about when the elite code will recommence.
