THE latest batch of father-son guns are starting to blossom and separate three-team battles are brewing over two youngsters.
In the latest round of the Under-16 National Championships Nick Blakey and Bailey Scott starred for NSW/ACT and Queensland respectively.
Blakey - the son of former Fitzroy and North Melbourne champion John - picked up 23 disposals and seven inside 50s as a midfielder for the NSW/ACT in the win over Queensland on Tuesday.
John Blakey played 135 games for Fitzroy before crossing to the Kangaroos and playing 224 games including the 1996 and 1999 premierships.
While the Brisbane Lions and Kangaroos could fight for his services, Blakey is also eligible to play for Sydney as a Swans Academy product given he has grown up in the region as his father is assistant coach at the Swans.
Scott - the son of former Geelong and North Melbourne star Robert - collected 28 disposals in the same game for Queensland, running through the midfield and standing out with his line-breaking ability.
Robert Scott played 132 games for the Cats before moving to Arden Street, where he played 113 games, including the 1996 flag.
Like Blakey, Scott is also eligible for a third team - the Gold Coast Suns - under academy rules as he plays his junior football with Broadbeach.
Blakey and Scott won’t be draft eligible until 2018 and the Kangaroos could add a third father-son pick with assistant coach Darren Crocker’s son, Joel, also progressing well.
Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs could add another son of a gun to their glittering father-son collection.
Rhylee West - son of Dogs legend Scott - impressed at the national championships held on the Gold Coast with 20 touches, nine tackles and a goal for Vic Metro.
If West ends up at Whitten Oval he will join fellow father-son stars Tom Liberatore, Mitch Wallis, Lachie Hunter and Zaine Cordy.
The Dogs could also add Jose Romero’s son Michael this year after the 17-year-old impressed in two appearances for Footscray in the VFL.
