Former Port Adelaide star Charlie Dixon has joined a local SA footy club ahead of the 2025 season after retiring from the AFL level.

Dixon will don the yellow and black for Hills Football League club Lobethal this year after calling time on his 221 game and 357 goal AFL career with Gold Coast Suns and Port Adelaide.

The 34-year-old forward/ruck utility was named All-Australian in 2020 and was Port Adelaide’s leading goalkicker in 2017, 2020 and 2021.

Dixon’s arrival at Lobethal marks the biggest move so far this local SA footy pre-season.

“The Lobethal Football Club is beyond excited to welcome former AFL gun Charlie Dixon to the Tigers for the 2025 HFL season,” a club spokesman said.

“With over 200 AFL games under his belt for Gold Coast Suns and the Port Adelaide Football Club plus 357 AFL goals – Charlie brings elite forward-line firepower, dominant ruck ability, and unmatched leadership to our club.

“A proven goal-kicker and contested marking beast, he’s been a key figure in some of Port’s biggest moments and is known for his physicality, passion, and team-first attitude.

“More than just a star player, Charlie is a top bloke with incredible character, and we can’t wait to see him in the yellow and black.”

Dixon struggled with injuries throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Port Adelaide but returned for the Power in their preliminary final loss to Sydney last year.

Despite his physical challenges, Dixon is expected to be fit and ready to go early in the Hills Football League season.

The signing is of major significance for Lobethal, the Tigers missing finals for two consecutive seasons after winning the 2022 premiership.
