Max Gawn’s cheeky roast for his mum’s cooking in Herald Sun’s Footy 17 magazine
HIS mum’s cooking, Christian Petracca and new teammate Jordan Lewis — no-one is spared when Melbourne big man Max Gawn is quizzed about off-field matters.

SOME might remember a far younger Naomi Watts turning down a dinner date with Tom Cruise in preference for her Mum’s lamb roast.
But it appears Melbourne’s Max Gawn isn’t as fussed over his mother’s cooking.

Gawn’s lighthearted jibe is just a sample of the big man’s unique take on life on this side of the white line when he was quizzed for the Herald Sun’s ‘Footy 17’ magazine — which comes out this Saturday.
When posed the question of what was the ‘weirdest thing’ he had eaten, Gawn gave a surprise answer.
“Mum’s attempt at a lamb roast,” he said, which certainly sounded appetising when compared to what Cat Tom Hawkins replied to the same question.
Gawn is among the game’s best to answer a series of questions for the 100-page magazine, which previews the 2017 season.
Among the Melbourne star ruckman’s revelations are his love of TV drama Wentworth, the coach’s pet at the Dees and the player he most likes to watch — Bulldog Matt Suckling.
Gawn isn’t your average footballer — or traditional Aussie sports fan.
When asked on Melbourne radio about a rumour that he rooted for New Zealand when it took on Australia with bat and ball, the big man was emphatic.
“That is completely true,” Gawn told Triple M.
“I actually went to New Zealand for Christmas and went to the real Boxing Day Test — New Zealand v Bangladesh.”
That makes a bit more sense when you realise both Gawn’s parents are New Zealanders. After being born in Australia, Gawn lived in the South Island town of Greymouth as a baby before his family relocated permanently to Melbourne.
