Adelaide Crows defender Wayne Milera has opened up about his elopement to long-term partner Nina Starkey.

The couple decided to head to Gull Rock, located between Willunga and Maslin Beach, to elope during sunset.

“When looking into having a wedding we come to realise that a traditional wedding wasn’t for us,” Wayne said.

“We wanted the day to be a romantic day between just us with no fuss or stress and it was exactly that.”

Wayne said he and Nina wanted to keep their original anniversary, which happened to fall on an Wednesday.

“Over the weekend we were able to get around to close family and let everyone know that we eloped. Everyone is extremely happy for us,” he said.

“The day off was very low key with Carter going to childcare while I went for a run and Nina drove to her hair and makeup appointments, followed by checking into EOS and getting ready together as a family.

“We had some photos and then drove to Port Willunga for our sunset ceremony before driving back to the city to go out for dinner.”

On Instagram, the couple posted a collage of photos from November 1, when they got hitched.

Captioned ‘Lucky man!’ with a series of emojis, the shots feature the pair embracing by the sea as well as on the beach and eating their wedding cake.

The couple’s celebrant, Alix Gloede, and their photographer, Bonnie McEvoy Photographer, confirmed they had eloped last Wednesday via their stories on Instagram.
