Tarryn Thomas facing fresh allegations of domestic violence

Almost 12 months to the day since he took time away from the Roos, Tarryn Thomas will face scrutiny from AFL House for new claims made against him.

Troubled North Melbourne midfielder Tarryn Thomas will be questioned at AFL House on Thursday for fresh domestic violence allegations.

Almost 12 months to the day since he took time away from the club, Thomas will face scrutiny for new claims, adding to his ongoing off-field issues.

In a statement on Wednesday, North Melbourne said the AFL Integrity Unit had contacted the club about Thomas.

“North Melbourne received notification from the AFL Integrity Unit on Wednesday that Tarryn Thomas is under investigation following a new allegation of inappropriate behaviour,” the statement read.

“The club is working through this information and is not in a position to make any further comment.”

Thomas, 23, was the focus of an investigation last year after a woman claimed he had been verbally abusive towards her.

He fronted court later in the year on a charge of threatening to distribute an intimate image.

Charges were dropped and he made a $1000 donation to charity, with no conviction recorded.

Kangaroos president Sonja Hood wrote to members on February 1 last year that the club takes “any allegation of threats and violence against women extremely seriously”.

She also wrote that Thomas would “undertake training and education to deal with his behavioural issues”.

In March, North Melbourne announced that Thomas would not be considered for selection as he hadn’t adhered to his education program and the club had been “alerted to further allegations of inappropriate behaviour”.

He played his first AFL game of the season in round 12 and performed strongly through 12 games.

Thomas, a highly talented midfielder-forward, is out of contract at the end of the 2024 season and has played 69 games.

He had been sidelined by a groin injury through pre-season but North Melbourne co-captain Jy Simpkin said on Tuesday that Thomas had “knuckled down” at training.

“One of Tarryn’s greatest strengths is he is so resilient and when he is out there he lets his footy do the talking,” Simpkin said.

“He had a bit of a groin interruption unfortunately but he is working hard and in a great mindset, so can’t wait to see what he does this season.”
