The clutch fourth-quarter goal alone was worth 13.29 SuperCoach points, while Bontempelli picked up a further 6.64 points for the effective kick.
The addition of 19.93 points took the Bulldogs star to a final score of 158, three points more than Adelaide’s Rory Sloane and four more than GWS Giants ball magnet Stephen Coniglio for Round 1.
“It’s obviously pretty cool to be in that situation,” Bontempelli said on RSN.
“A lot sort of has to go right for you to then to be at the end of it or in that moment.
“But it’s a pretty cool feeling. It still excites me, that part of the game.
“I’ll never get bored or sick of being in those situations.”
Bontempelli’s major gave the Bulldogs breathing space in the dying minutes before first-gamer Sam Lloyd’s snap ensured the club started 2019 on a winning note.
The left-footer finished with 29 possessions (nine contested), reeling in five marks and laying seven tackles against the Swans.
His impressive disposal efficiency (72.4%) was a key to his career-best SuperCoach score, launching him above 150 for the first time since Round 23, 2015.
Teammate Mitch Wallis (80.8%, 26 possessions) was the only other player with a disposal efficiency above 70 per cent who had more than 25 possessions.
