Six rounds into the SuperCoach season, and a lot has happened so far. But it’s time to get excited about cashing in those rookies for premium players or rookies on the bubble as we creep towards the bye rounds.
Round 6 delivered us a mixed bag result, with Lachie Whitfield failing to crack 50 SuperCoach points after suffering an injury in the first half against the Swans on Saturday night, meanwhile SuperCoach stud Nat Fyfe has stunningly returned to form.
Robbie Gray headlines this list with a broken hand set to sideline him, while evergreen Carlton defender Kade Simpson has suffered a hamstring injury and will also face a stint on the sidelines. Speaking of injuries, time is up for Nic Newman who suffered a leg injury and didn’t return to the field against the Hawks, finishing on 58 SuperCoach points.
Jack Darling – who really shouldn’t be that SuperCoach relevant anyway – needs the flick if you have him in your team. He’s averaging just 15 points from the last two games. Ouch!
There’s been plenty of talk about mid-priced starters Brad Crouch and Tom Liberatore. While it’s not quite panic stations yet for the pair, there is merit in upgrading them to a fallen premium this week, such as Nat Fyfe. This one comes down to personal preference, but make an effort to upgrade or downgrade rookies first while Crouch and Libba are scoring relatively well.
As far as form guides go, Jack Scimshaw started off as a popular rookie, but will be on the chopping block for many with a breakeven of 58. The Zak Butters steam train looks to be pulling up to its destination, having scored 46 and 23 in the past fortnight. Tom Atkins, Sam Collins, Jordan Clark, Charlie Constable and Bailey Scott are rookies who you can start cashing in or upgrading.
START ‘EM
It’s certainly the week to bring in Nat Fyfe who has a breakeven on 90 this week and sits at a ridiculous price of $564,000 and an average of 114.4. Similarly, Rory Laird is ripe for the picking as a defensive upgrade option at $531,600. Also stationed down back, James Sicily put up a big score against the Blues and sits at $564,300 with an average of 106.5.
Tim Kelly is as cheap as chips and has a breakeven of just 62 this week, and you won’t want to miss the boat. Even though he had 39 against the Giant (ankle injury) and was tagged out by West Coast’s Mark Hutchings, his form guide is pretty spot on four scores of 100 or more. At $479,700, the dual position Cat is value for money.
We have also seen enough of Caleb Daniel to now consider him as a premium forward option, despite the fact that he’s playing down back. From six rounds of football, Daniel is yet to dip below 93 SuperCoach points, scoring four SuperCoach centuries along the way. His consistency has been outstanding and he comes with a friendly bye round and will still cost you less than $500,000. Bargain.
BUBBLE BOYS
It’s a good week to jump on $123,900 defender from West Coast, Josh Rotham. His job security has spiked in recent times with Tom Barrass sidelined indefinitely. Western Bulldogs midfielder Will Hayes is a bargain basement $117,300 option in the midfield if you’re looking to downgrade and given the mixed form the Bulldogs are in, he’ll get further opportunity. Lachlan Young and James Rowbottom don’t look overly SuperCoach relevant but are also on the bubble.
