As SuperCoach prices don’t move until a player has appeared in three matches, Rounds 2 and 3 offer the opportunity for you to right some wrongs and correct the errors you made in your Round 1 team selection. This week, you have two trades to be able to ditch an underperforming gun like Dustin Martin or Isaac Heeney, or bring in that rookie you overlooked before their price hikes up after this round.

But how can you tell which players you should be picking up? SuperCoach Stats takes the guesswork out of your multiple spreadsheets you have lying around on your desktop and shows you all the key numbers you need to make your trades the best they can possibly be.

First off, SuperCoach Stats presents the most accurate breakevens (BE). The BE shows the amount of points a player needs to score to “breakeven”, that is, to maintain their same price. If a player scores over their BE, they will increase in value, whereas if a player scores under their BE, they will decrease in value.

Take, for example, Port Adelaide young gun Willem Drew. He currently has a staggering BE of -121. What that means, is that even if he scores zero points this week, he will still increase in value by almost $100,000. Suffice to say, get him in!

Contrast this to a player like Max Gawn, who is sitting with a scary BE of +198 after his poor performance in Round 1. That means Gawn needs to score a minimum of 198 points in this next match against Essendon on Friday night to ensure he doesn’t lose any money. While it’s unlikely Gawn will top the near 200 benchmark he’s set himself, it is more likely he will drop in value over the coming weeks meaning you can pick him up at a discount in a few rounds time.

SuperCoach Stats also enables you to view career stats dating all the way back to 2008! And this is particularly handy if you’re looking to make a well educated opinion on who to make captain this week.

Finally, SuperCoach Stats also places a man inside your opposition’s camp to gain some intel for you. In the Coaches’ Choice section, you can see what proportion of people are choosing players as captain this week. You can use this one of two ways: if you are unsure of who to captain, take a look and see who others are captaining and go for the safe option; or, you can identify a player with a low captaincy proportion in hopes of skyrocketing yourself up the ranks.
