Meanwhile, thousands have already fallen into the temptation of jumping on mid-priced picks after they dominated in Round 1.

Tom Rockliff (5049 teams), Nic Newman (4841) and Dom Sheed (3213) were the most popular SuperCoach additions as of Wednesday after they posted monster scores in Round 1.

Rockliff ($405,900, Mid) backed up a dominant JLT Series with 138 points in Port Adelaide’s victory over Melbourne, grand final hero Sheed ($394,100, Mid) ran amok with 144 points against Brisbane and Newman ($394,100, Def) debuted for Carlton with 134 points.

History suggests the top-20 scorers from Round 1 will experience a significant slide this weekend.

Last year, the top-20 from the opening round posted a collective average of 139.3, which dropped to 107.5 in Round 2.

Starting the season at $408,100, Charlie Curnow blazed 126 in Round 1 but dropped to 96 the next week.

Essendon skipper Dyson Heppell (142 to 89), Blake Acres (144 to 90) and Jack Billings (133 to 79) were others who experienced a huge drop off after blitzing Round 1.
